SALE OVER

I have 4 sets of the blue/orange version of this same ram and using it in 2 PCs. You can change the settings of lighting with MOD software from Crucial or just turn it off period. The price of this stuff is great for what you get.

LINK TO RAM

Don't pass this stuff up if your in the market for 4-8gb

You can also get the blue/orange version for $17.99 free shipping

You can change patterns, color scheme, brightness or turn leds off etc. Also, the MOD software does not need to be ran at windows startup, once you make your changes they stay that way from POST even if you uninstall MOD.

um.... how is a 2x2GB kit for $17 a "good deal"?

The highly overclockable Samsung low voltage 4GB sticks sell for $16 shipped.
4GB sticks >>> 2GB sticks

Yes, but do the Samsung sticks have lighting? Apples and oranges, if you're in that market.

true, but I like oranges better. Though some Honey Crisps are good.
but 4GB always wins over 2GB sticks. I'd never buy 2GB sticks these days.

where are samsung 4GB sticks for $17?

You just have to watch the deals. The last time was in mid-Dec. Apparently, it's a typical sale price for them and occurs regularly.

I'd bet that either the single 4GB sticks or the 2x4gb kit will go on sale sometime in Jan.

While I would generally agree with you, 2GB sticks have their place. I use them in my HTPC's because I don't really need 8GB (even 4GB is overkill) for it.

I wont buy ddr3 in less then 4gb sticks even if I don't need them just because eventually the hardware will be repurposed and then I may want more. For the very small price difference there is now its worth it for future proofing.

Cmon man, everyone knows sticks with Blue LEDs run cooler and with Red leds run faster.

I won the 16gb blue/orange kit at a recent LAN. I been using them, but really don't need. Anyone interested in a partial trade/money add deal? LOL. If I must have LEDs..then I want RED.

I just got 8 packs of these for $129 shipped w/ coo-pin code. I'd rather have them w/o the ricer lights.

4GB sticks >>> 2GB sticks

Ive had 5 sets of the Samsungs (HYK0), and 6 sets of the Crucials (D9PFJ), all 4GB DIMMs, 8GB kits.

Two kits of the Samsungs would do 2600Mhz at very loose timings with an Ivy CPU. The rest could barely do 2k. ALL of the Crucials would do 2400Mhz 9-9-9-24 or 2150Mhz 8-8-8-22 benchable, or 2200Mhz 9-9-9-24 stable with 1.64V or less, or 2000Mhz 8-8-8-22 stable with 1.6V or less. And that was with AMD or Intel.

The Samsungs go higher, but the Crucials run much tighter timings. No other 4GB DIMM ICs can run those timings at those speeds.

If you have an Ivy CPU, and want a chance at really high mem speeds, then get the Samsungs (which I currently run). If you have anything else, or want better timings, get the Crucials (or any other sticks with D9PFJ, Kingston and Mushkin have some).

Sounds good. Do Crucials 2GB sticks (such as those that the OP posted) do the same?
Equally important, is that if people purchase the 2GB sticks, the total capacity limit on most motherboards (with 4 slots), would of course be 8GB.

Knowing that there's the possibility of upgrading to 16GB may be worth it (for many) to buy either the Samsung or Crucial 4GB sticks instead of these 2GB sticks.

2GB sticks clock about the same, but have less bandwidth because they are single sided.

Its going into a linux box-is there a way to shut them off under *nix?

I cant find anything. I know it would be a pain in the arse but, you could install windows, change the lighting and then go back to linux

Can I set them form a windows machine and move them?

I honestly dont know, let me pull some sticks and see if when I put em in another box and see if they stay the same. I will let you know in this post in a bit

EDIT: I pulled them, stuck them into another box, they had same pattern, but when I stuck back into box they were pulled from the brightness had gone back to full.
