Hey guys,
I recently purchased a Maxtor 200gig PATA HDD. When installing Windows XP I decided to partition the drive. I made the following partitions:
-20gigs for Windows
-120gigs for Games/apps
-rest for storage
All turned out fine, and are all formated to the NTFS system. But whenever I install a program, the default location for the install path is always drive C (my windows drive). I would like to know if there is a way that I could change the default path to E (my apps/games drive).
Cheers Sucliffe

A better place to ask would be the OS forum; I'm sure there is a registry key somewhere that specifies default program files location. If I had to guess, I would say HKLM\software\microsoft\windows\currentversion\setup

Thats one hell of a guess. It is in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion (dont need to go to setup) and just change the value in ProgramFilesDir

Ya know, I've been doing that for years and never found that information regarding the default path.

Damn, Thanks dude!

Without the \setup would have been my second guess :p

Um

in the "insaller" of the program why not just type in E instead of C...... - almost ANY program i know of u can choose what directory to install it in.

because I'm lazy. Laziness = efficiency.

Also, I am quite particular, and I've been in a hurry more than once, and removed stuff I didnt want to from the installer prompt....

c:\dynamix\tribes became d:\ynamix\tribes

Grrr.... :p

lol

done that myself a few times, then when u go looking for the directory you swore you installed you cant find it :)
