Newbie Question: AMD64 CPUs have to run with WinXP x64 ?

Newbie Question:

AMD64 CPUs have or must run with WinXP x64 ?

Do I really need to have WinXP x64 version ? What are the advantages and disadvantages with either gaming, encoding softwares and programming in .net -wise ? I'm a media and IDE designer so therefore a lot of media.

Win Xp 32 is fine for that chip. No need to run x-64 if you do not need it.
