okay,

so i got my new comp running a socket 754 3000+. i've got it stable up to 2100 mhz. i am only going on air cooling alone. i will not be doing anything fancy. i figure my case has 3 fans. four if you count the vid card. they better be good for something! so wiht the gigabyte mobo my comp came with, there's this easy oc program. is this thing any good? anyone else have any experience with it? i figure, it helps a dummy like me out, by taking all the difficult out. i literally just click the arrow up or down and it adjusts the settings for me! i can check them in cpuz. and all this oc must be helping . i went from a stock winmark3d05 score of about 3000 up to 3800 this morning. still a few tweaks to do tho! so should i push it more than 2.1 ghz? anyone have any experience?

From what I've heard overclocking in the bios is the way to go. I have used core center with my Neo2 Plat just for temp and voltage readings, never really played with the overclocking side of it so I'm not sure. I would suggest compairing the overclocking program settings with what you have in your bios. You should be able to learn a lot about your bios and the settings in there.

Not sure about that particular overclocking utility, but I know that some can make the computer unstable by choosing inappropriate clock speeds.

I suggest you read up on A64 overclocking articles and previous postings in this forum and others to better answer your question. Keep in mind that no one can tell you exactly how far you can overclock your setup, they can just tell you how far they got, and the averages of other people trying to do the same thing.
 
Bios OC's are a bit more inconvienent but definitly the way to go. All chips vary in how far they can go to push it till it's unstable no more :)
