I recently built a budget system using a Pentium Haswell G3258 @ 3.2GHz stock speed, and an MSI H81 mobo.
I found out the CPU is unlocked, so to overclock all I apparently had to do was enter my BIOS and use a utility to increase the CPU ratio.
I set it at 40 (40 x 100MGz) and it now displays my CPU frequency at 4.0GHz both in BIOS and Windows.
I know there are different methods to overclock, but this almost seems too easy. Is that really all there is to it?
I left the voltages on "auto" and hope the board can figure it out. The system seems stable and I do notice the faster speed.
I played some games and then checked the CPU temp at it was at 42C.
I know these new Haswell chips runs pretty cool, so do you think I can survive for a while with stock air cooling?
Is there any chance I could go beyond 4.0GHz and still use stock cooling?
