Hi all,

I am a newbie thinking on upgrading my memory. I have a gigabyte x58-ud3r mother board, Core i7-920 and 3 x 1gb pc12800 ddr3 memory sticks on it. I am upgrading to win 7 and wish to bump this up to 6gb, I am looking at the following memory:

CORSAIR XMS3 6GB (3 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Triple Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model TR3X6G1600C9

On new egg, and I am wondering if I would need to do anything to get all 6 gigs seen and running at full speed. The 3 is working fine so I know the slots are good. Is there anything else I would need to know on these or do to set them up and is this a good brand? Does win 7 run fine on just 3 gigs or would 6 be much better?

Thanks for any help..

cant go wrong with 6 gigs, however if your not playing games or heavily multitasking im not sure how much of a difference your going to see. If you play games or use a lot of A/V rendering programs i say go for it. The only thing you have to make sure is that your copy of win 7 is the x64 version. Otherwise your computer wont see more than 4 gigs (total including video cards and everything else in your system that has memory.) Install 64 bit and you will be just fine.
P.S. corsair is an excellent memory maker. Good pick
