I know, i know..dount buy Alienware...

Let me present my situation first then answer.

I sold my stock Dell xps to my sister for $500 (it was pretty nice...x58 w i7920 and a 4850 vid card w 4g of 1333 ram)...i had picked it up from the good ol dell outlet for like $770 about a year and a half ago (if you can believe that).

Ok Now the question. I really dont want to scew around building a system. I would have to buy a FULL copy of win7 for about $200 and that would eat up most of my savings...plus i have always seemed to screw up some minor bios setting some where and spend weeks with a buggy system before i figure it out...been my curse since my first build in the days of the slot A althlons when i had the agp aperture to 4x (all the specs said 4 x) but it could only handle 2x...crashed constantly when running games for about 2 months....) anyway been one thing after another with building my own machines since then and im just DONE...so i found this:

(in the Dell outlet):

Its a scratch and dent....spec price for that system is cose to $1,800 which..i would NOT pay.

I think thats a fair price, ill be putting it with the $500 i got from my sis and be dropping $800. Their web page say the bios is NOW FINALLy fully unlocked for over clocking but i will mostly likely be saddled with an a 575w power supply....no worries..i dont usually run sli or x-fire anyway.

So..my mind is pretty much made up unless i am making some colassal ground breaking mistake here...which is where i need advice from you guys. They are throwing in that mouse which retails for $99 and a vanilla key board basically free.

(By the way, i have a nice brand new in the box alien ware for sale with an i650 and 5770 and 4G for sale (all the rest of the specs are idential to above) if anyone wants it for $1,100 its yours. (includes tax but not shipping..never been out off the box or turned on). (its goin on ebay tonight).

PS I know the 860 is a side step from teh 920 i already had but that xps was a train wreck. 300W power supply (wtf?), no room in the case, and the Radeon 5850 was only 512 ram and seemed UNDERCLOCKED. After i calculated the cost of 200-300 vid card, a new power supply..and i really needed an copy of win 7......it became obvious that i could just sell her for $500 and buy something a lil over $1,000 and probably be better off. The alienware has a badass case..easy to add stuff in there, includes water cooling....we will see about the unlocked bios....jury is still out on that one. And a 5870 costs what...about $300 still?? (See where im going with all this?)

IGNORE MY SIG..that was from 3 computers ago.

It seems i posted this in the wrong forum. Re-posted in the computers and toys forum

My only issue with not building a Rig is that you dont know what HDD or PSU they put in the Rig & I do see that they dont list those items so I cant tell you if it will be worth it or not. Ive dealt with alienware before i started doing my own builds. ive never had an issue with them in the past.
