Could I use this to power my motherboard only? No drives, no fans - just the mobo and what ever else is attached (cards & ports)?

MY specs are:

CPU : Athlon64 socket 754 New Castle 3400+
RAM : 1GB DDR400
Video : SAPPHIRE Radeon X1600XT 256MB GDDR3 PCI Express x16
** onboard video will be disabled **
** HDD are external connect via the USB (SATA and IDE will be disabled) **
** internal drives (DVD writer and fan controller) are powered via the external coaxial plug ***
Diamond XtremeTV PVR550 PCI

The PSU that came with the system is a FSP275-60CU (275w)

The PSU in the link is DC to DC. So the answer is: Unless you're going to hook it up to a car alternator, "No."

Thank you. The only thing I know about PSU's is to buy name brand at a high wattage. I am trying to make my PSU sit outside my case, and was hoping that this would work so that I did not have to cut the case and have an ugly ATX plug sticking out of the rear.

Thanks again, I was hoping I could just buy this and this and I would be good to go.

I am glad I asked before I ordered this.

What's your budget? If you're wanting an external PSU you could try this PSU , it's a bit pricey but it's powerful and external plus it's fanless.

It would not work because all I need is to get power to the motherboard connector and that has to many cables for what I need. Thanks for the link, it might help me out in the future.

Why do you want the PSU outside the case? Running a half dozen cables inside to power everything is going to look uglier than a single AC power will...

Because the case is pretty small, this will help with airflow and the HSF that I am going to use is in the way of the PSU.

Also the way the cables will be run you should not see them since there will only be 5 of them.

1. motherboard power cable + the 4 pin cable (sleeved together)
2. DVD writer power cable + IDE cable
3. SATA cable
4. fan cable

I e-mailed mini-box.com before I posted my question in this forum and they meailed me and said that it would not be enough power for the motherboard.
