Newb: When to leak test?

Pardon my ignorance, but when do you prefer to leak test? In or out of the case? Do you do a test fit to measure the hoses or what?
 
Leak test in the case, you can even leak test with your stuff in there (mobo, vid card) I would leave out anything that does not have a waterblock fitted to it. You then make sure that all power connectors are unplugged from everything except the pump. Jump the PSU so that the pump starts and your good to go. If anything leaks over your components make sure to dry them off real good, and let it sit for at least a day, preferrably two. Make sure that there is no water in the PCI/AGP sockets.

Doing a leak test like this has the benefit that you are testing your final installation, because if everything works you just plop in the HDD's and whatnot and your ready to go. If you leak test outside of the case and then install everything you run the risk that in transporting the loop you jarred something loose and it will leak.

An alternative to leaving the mobo and vid card in the case is to test fit everything, cut the tubing, connect everything basically, and then take the waterblocks off the cpu/gpu and remove the components while leaving the watercooling equipment connected and in the case.
 
In the case with everything exactly where you want it to be. Assuming you are using a 12V pump, pull the PSU MB connector off the MB and short the green wire to any black wire (paper clip works great) and the PSU will send juice to your pump without juice going to the MB. Run for minimum of 24 hours and check for leaks. If no leaks you are good to go. If you add UV dye to your system you should be able to see even the tinest of leaks.
