Newb Question.

Artifacts are "errors" in the graphical output (i.e. seeing spots or tearing). Basically its seeing stuff that you should`nt see :)

I think they are normally caused by an overheating graphics card, bad drivers, or badly programed software ;)
 
Yeah, what he said. Are you having artifact problems with your card? If so, you can always put a better fan on your card or if you overclocked it, try knocking it down back to default to see if it clears up. I overclocked my 9800 Pro and some games would work fine, but others would have artifacts all over the place. Putting on a better HSF fixed it.
