Hi, I just recently installed an EVGA 8800GTS Superclocked card along w/ Corsair 550VX on a AMD Athlon 64X2 4200 w/ 3MB, Vista comp. The mobo had a built in nVidia graphics. My question would be, would i need to disable the stock graphics card once the new one is in? if so how. If not needed, would there be any inherent benefits in turning it off? Im running Samsung 226BW via DVI. Would/Should i expect to see drastic improvement of the display in normal computer usage(i see no difference), or will i only see it once i play a game? I was playing CS Source and maxed out the settings, and didnt seem any diff. Your comments/vies would be appreciated.thanks
 
No, you shouldn't notice any appreciable difference in 2D use. And CS:S isn't going to push that card hard enough @ your native res (1680x1050), perhaps w/ a 24" (1920x1080/1200) it might, dunno.

Anyway on the onboard video, 8800 thing, there should be a setting in the BIOS somewhere... Something like onboard video enable/disable, or Display preference onboard/PCI-e...Check your manual.
 
some mobos doesn't need you to manually disable on-board gfx in order to use add-in gfx card.

brand and tipe info of your mobo will surely help.
 
i checked the bios, and saw that it switched to PCI, instead of the onboard graphics card. since the card 8800 is not PCI, its PCI-E, i changed it from PCI->PCI-E. is there is a diff if its PCI or PCI-E?the mobo is AM2 socket by AMD. rest of my info is in the sig. if i want to OC the graphics card now, what program/tool should i use to best OC it an to monitor while doin it. thanks
 
no, i don't think it matters, like i said, there's no need to change your bios setting unless your mobo is very very old.

and don't forget to test your oc stability by play on your 3d games (imo, titan quest is the badass when comes to overheat your card) then look for artifact.
