newb question: How can Socket 478 support Prescott?

I see that my Soltek EQ3401M says it supports Prescott up to 3.4G, yet I thought the Prescott was a whole new packaging. I looked at a 3.0 that came in a new dell yesterday and there were no pins on the bottom, and the socket looked totally different. DO they make sdapters or something? I can trade my 2.4C for a 3.0 Prescott straight up... but it makes no sense to me.
