Hey guys, I want to buy memory for my compaq because it is SLOW!

This is the specs on my computer now CLICK ME!

or if you don't want to click it. It is a AMD 2400+ I have 184 pin pc2100

Now I found someone selling some that is pc2100 and here is what the add says....
I have 2 512's PC2100 64x64 DDR Unbuff C.L 2.5...$50

My question is will it work on my comp and how do I set it up. Do I just plug it in and it works? Any help would be appreciated.

Before anyone says read the Sticky, I have read it, but It is like reading Greek to me. Thanks.

EDIT: wait im not sure about compaq, they might screw with their parts..it SHOULD be plug-and-play though.
 
Ok so it will for sure fit, only complications that may come up is configuring it to work?
 
As long as the speed of the RAM you are installing is equal to the speed of the motherboard bus, the BIOS will do the rest. Ideally the two 512 sticks should be from the same manufacturer to minimize compatability issues.

Just turn off system, touch the case to ground yourself, remove old stick and intstall new sticks.

Run
memtest after your system boots up to insure you did not get any bad RAM.
 
it should work then because I plan on removing the stick that came with the comp (256) and replacing it with 2 512s.
 
Here's something to consider - PC3200 will act the same in your system as PC2100 would. They're functionally the same, except PC3200 has a higher rated top speed (and meets the requirements for most recent systems). It might be a better idea to go with that, as you'll be able to re-use it later if you upgrade your motherboard/CPU.
