newb cpu question

Yes, you have a socket 478 Prescott. Non-hyperthreading with 533fsb speed.

Is this your cpu?

thank you for the reply. Yes its a CPU that I recently aquired. Do you mind explaining the difference in a prescott and northwood chip? and should I be concernd about performance since this 2.8 is non hyperthreading?

thanks
dan

Prescotts have a greater power leakage.... IE: the power leaks as heat

Nothing to be really concerned about, especially, since it only at 2.8Ghz.

It would obviously be better if it had HT. HT benefits you if you're a power user or do a lot of multi-tasking. (lots of open windows & apps, etc.)

Thats about it... plug it in and let it rip. (assuming your mobo supports Prescott, as some older socket 478 motherboards WON'T)

Check motherboard maker's compatibility specs.

Also, you might want to read up a little :)
