New Xen Server Build... help please ?

Im planning to build a new xen server.

I want to build a new server that :


Has TONS of ram
Dual or single cpu Amd / Intel
Semi Quiet, unless under lots of load
Rack Mount
No Hard drives

The server i have now is quiet as hell and powerfull, but maxes out at 32 gigs ram.

So i want to build a new one, but my one *weird* request is, i don't need any hard drives in it as i use iscsi.

So what are my options, what kinda board should i buy that will allow lots of ram, and in a 1-2u chassis that is quiet..

What you guys run for esxi / xen with no hard drives.. Just a server with processing power & ram..

Slightly off topic, but if I may ask what are your plans with the new Xen server and why are you changing from ESXi or is it in addition?

Edit: One thing of concern is the size of the PSU depending on whether your adding a GPU or something. 400W should be plenty for those two processors on iSCSI only but adding some stuff to the server could approach that limit possibly.

i use xen, and the server i have now maxes out at 32 gigs ram. I want more :)

Wont add anything except more nic's have it be 1gig or 2gig or 10gig cards..
 
The 2U supermicro's are pretty reasonable, not too loud under normal load. Make sure you run a low TDP CPU and you can probably get away with pulling a couple of fans from the PCI-E slot area if it's running empty. Leaving the two mains over the CPU area. Cutting noise a bit more.

will the free version allow up to 2 cpus and lots of ram tho ?
 
XenServer is pretty good but not as advanced as VMWare. IT does have more features on the "Free" version then VMware though. I can't decide what I like more, so much so I use both!
 
You could run xen (not the citrix one) on bare bone Debian server and have GPU pass through. Does everything Citrix Xen does but for free and with out an easy to use GUI.

Just Say'en ;)
