Here’s a video of those Xbox 360 ads people were having a heart attack over last week. It’s not like it is a pop up or banner ad, it is one pane in the Inside Xbox section and you have to literally scroll to it to watch it. Check it out.

I agree...if there are going to be ads it should be cheaper. Case in point, I was on B&N website looking for a book...the print version was $12.98...and wait for it...so was the E-Book version.
If you cut your costs (by adding advertising, or improving manufacturing) as a consumer I expect you to pass that on to me...but alas....no one does.

I dont mind ads like these, but I want XBL to be cheaper because of it.

or at least only visible to the free live memberships. If i'm going to pay for a gold subscription, i want the option to turn these off. Or i will just not be surfing any of the tabs.

They've had movie previews the same way on live in the last few months. I don't mind the ads as long as the ad is only on the Inside Xbox tab. If every tab gets a ad that is not directly game related then we better get a break on the price of Xbox Live Gold.

Came to post as well that either they need to make the subscriptions cheaper if they are going to be doing this (despite where the ads are displayed), or they need to make it where people that do pay for Gold memberships have the option of turning the ads off.

Does Microsoft think I switched to $$$$ XM and HBO to watch commercials?

This thing sucks up bandwidth, time, and hard drive space. I am not paying for gold if microsoft is going to shove commercials in my face.

lawl, why on earth would anybody think MS introduces adware to make XBL cheaper? Clearly everyone is perfectly happy paying $50/year, so what possible incentive does MS have to make it cheaper when the ads are designed purely to generate revenue? You think they went to all the hassle negotiating ad contracts and software R&D to implement this feature just to break even at the end of the day? Please..

This is obviously a test case. They are using this as a test case. If we as a community do not protest and act now, Microsoft will make these things more and more intrusive.

It might explain why microsoft wanted to capture the media center wars. It's all about making a crap load of money making us watch commercials once they have a captive audience....Nice.

I'm so pissed off about this, I can't even make whole sentences sound right. I'm usally quite calm cool and collected with things. But this is down right ballsy by M$.

i dont mind these ads at all since i just scroll over them. The first time i heard it i was like cool and thats it.

You guys are getting butthurt by something that's not even intrusive. Just pass it up. It's not going to kill you.

Intrusive ads are like the ones on television where commercials are twice as long as the shows themselves, or ones where you're forced to watch them in order to get to the main video on websites.

This isn't intrusive. You can simply scroll pass it.

If I see another GD NetFlix AD on my Tiger Woods 2010 screen, I'm gonna throw the controller at it.

I don't see a problem with this one in XBL though. Just keep it out of my way.

Like I stated I don't "mind" them I just think it's pure shite that they capture us with a service we pay for and then change the terms to make them more money once we are hooked...it isn't like I can afford to buy a ps3 and change...they got their Xbox live crack in front of me and in order to smoke it I have to deal with this.

I think the idea of making Silver members watch these is a good idea....I also agree that a controller is going to get broke if I have to watch another TW netflix ad...

I don't even own an Xbox 360 but, I gotta say, that's just lame.

Doesn't seem like you can do much of anything these days without whoring ourselves out for some kind of commercialization... geez.

Problem is, this is a test to gauge how people react to having adverts on your console. To think this wasn't coming to Xbox Live is naive at best. The blade pane that displays this can be rolled past, so not a big deal (now), but when you can no longer avoid the ads (not on the blade pane but title bar) then people will be up in arms.

While I see spending $50 a year would get people pissed about adverts, how many of the same people pay a cable bill and still have to watch commercials? Well, besides owning a TiVo that is...
I think this is an inevitability with how our capitalist society works.

Ad apologetics?

I was talking about that while having lunch. They all just want to make more money. Cable was supposed originally to be designed to get rid of commercials, because you are paying a subscription but Oh no. That's not possible.

The value of things in this capitalist society is provided by the amount of money these things provides instead of by the actual benefits they provide. The worse part of Capitalism is that in Comunism/Socialism the value of things is not even provided by money, but by control. At least in capitalism you can get some benefits out of having some money without having to totally wreck other people's lives. While in comunism/socialism if you're not a backstabbing SOB you're pretty much marginalized.

Ad apologetics?

Not at all, just someone who's perfectly capable of controlling what my eyes can see.

The [H] has banners all over their main site. Don't like them? Don't look at them. Those ad-blocking plug-ins are just silly. It's like saying you're incapable of controlling your own eyes and hands!

Jesus christ, people get their panties bunched up in such a wad over the littliest shit. Their farking adds people and just like TV commercial, you can change the farking channel/move the tab and not listen/watch it. Is that so hard?

I dont even care ill take it. Id rather pay 50 dollars a year and have the kind of service like Xbox live rather then pay nothing and deal with the PS3s online.

I didn't pay money for a service so they could later add ads to make more money off me and flood my bandwidth with crap I don't want or need.

People wouldnt be getting there panties in a bunch if it WAS A FREE SERVICE.

Let me break it down for ya:

Xbox Gold membership = $50/Year w/o Ads, MS makes money, everyone is happy.

Soon to be: Xbox Gold = $50/Year w/ Ads, MS makes more money, yet we still pay the same price and are stuck with Ads?

Cut the membership price to $40 a year, then we can talk about Ads you stupid asses (MS).

I can understand Microsoft using the same add (which they do) in the 1 vs. 100 and other such Beta games. But then to go a shove the same ones in ours faces in the dashboard is just ridiculous. I have had enough of that ad already from Television. BTW 1 vs. 100 = pretty fun even with the ads

yea, there is absolutely NO way that advertisements have ANY affect on you if you aren't attentively looking at them.

If the ad was right in your face, had no choice but to watch it, then I would be upset, this is no diff than scrolling past the tabs for games, movies, you can buy.

The make it cheaper arguement unfortunately has already has already been lost. Ads in games haven't made them cheaper so this is the next logical step. Welcome to the for profit world.

Annoying is the damn pop-up ads that still get past my blockers, or even worse the damn TV ads on-screen during your show. Those you can't ignore and can't skip past.

This doesn't get me the least bit ticked...

They have had ads on the dashboard since the old one. Never ones like this but there were still ads. Its an out of the way ad that is not annoying at all.

I don't pay attention to them. Are you saying you're incapable of telling yourself what you want to do? What you want to see? Ads are for people who cares. "Holy shit, there's a sale on a Geforce card at the Egg!". But for others? "Meh, I just bought a card recently" or "meh, I don't need it" or "eh, I can't afford it right now".

But you guys? "omg it makes my eyes bleed and makes me all stupid-like cuz I can't wait 5 measely second for ads to go away or I can't be bothered to move my mouse to click 'skip this ad'. I must throw a fit!"

Get over yourselves. They're advertisement. Unobtrusive ones at that.

you obviously have no experience with a marketing department, or ad agency of any kind. You also have a very naive idea of the purpose of advertisements in general.

No. I won't "get over my self". Nascar started with a single ad too. If we don't bitch about it now, it'll end up with ads all over everything. People standing up and bitching is the only reason the ads aren't plastered everywhere. Grow some balls and rock the boat once in a while.

No need, not when people like you exist that live and breath to do that sorta thing for us.

The problem is, they will continue to get more and more intrusive. This is essentially what happened with my HD TiVo, that I paid big bucks for (and the expensive lifetime sub too).

They'll probably get everyone to cool off about it and then slip a couple more ads in, etc.

If I had to always watch ads before something, I would hate it of course. Though if you can scroll over it or change to something else then it's probably fine, unless they make ads everywhere..

Unobtrusive? They take up bandwidth, space, and lots of them in the recent years make a LOT of noise. People speaking when you have a default volume, and they speak even louder because they recorded at a higher volume is obtrusive.

Get over yourself, and don't act like your oppinion is the only one important.

Oh man, bandwidth! How could I forget how much bandwidth streaming video clips and a few images take.

If you're really concerned about bandwidth, you might want to consider dumping dial-up internet. They suck for Xbox gaming anyways, I'm sure you know.

As for space, it's called internet cache. They flush themselves when they reach a certain size.

But hey, complain away if it makes you feel better.

Stop displaying your ignorance. Not everyone has unlimited internet, lots of broadband services have caps, especially outside the US.
