Just got a new x1950xt but can't get it to run in 3d mode for longer then a cpl minutes before either my pc locks up or vpu recovery kicks in. System specs:
sunbeam nuuo 550 (sli certified)
evga nf41
x2 3800 @ 2.5ghz
2gig ddr 500 @ 1:1
x1950xt cat 7.2
X-Fi
2x 74gig ADFD raid 0
Before installing the x1950xt I was using a 7800gt. I uninstalled the drivers for the 7800gt, removed it from the system and installed the x1950xt. Booted into safe mode and used drive cleaner to remove any reminents of the nvidia drivers. Rebooted and installed the Cat 7.2s. Started to run some benchmarks to do a comparison and it locks up the pc or dumps to desktop with vpu recovery within a cpl minutes. I tried warcat 7.2s, same problem. I tried looser timings on the system ram, problem still occurs. I also took out a 1gig kit just to see if it was memory related, though I've never had problems with the memory before. Still experienced the problem, though I didn't try loose timings with the 1gig kits themselves which I will do tonight. I did end up getting it to work by setting everything to defaults, no overclocks (re: I have not yet tried overclocking the x1950xt). Is the x1950xt touchy when it comes to system overclocks? The system has been at 2.5ghz since the day I got it through multiple graphics cards, this my first ATI card in the system.
To recap:
x1950xt drops to desktop with vpu recovery or pc locks up after a cpl mins in any game or benchmark
-tried warcat 7.2, which are currently installed
-tried looser timings on system memory
-tried the 1gig kits separately (however not with loose timings)
-used atitool to increase various voltages on the x1950xt, all back to default now
-used atitool to set the fan to run 100% constantly
-used atitool to log temps, ran through 3dmark05... highest temp before dump was 62c
*before calling it a night I set my cpu to default (which of course dropped mem to 200fsb), after doing this it successfully completed two runs back to back of 3dmark05.
Just looking for suggestions/speculation. The overclock had been perfect since the day I put together this pc up until the x1950xt was installed, previous graphics cards were a 6800gt, 7800gt, and 7900gt.
Thanks,
Flak
