So last week I donated almost $900 to the well gods to restore flowing water in my house.
Saturday when I got home from work my son told me that the TV was broken.
$119 latter I have a new bulb on it's way, hopefully here before the Superbowl!

Now for the computer problem.
It looks like I used too much ram for my VM -bigadv. I try to suspend it and it says I need another 1.6gb of ram to do it. I used 5.2gb because I thought it was crashing because I didn't have enough memory to it. I also backed down my OC a little to make sure.
Can I use the ctl+c and add the -oneonly tag without hurting the -bigadv progress?
Or do I have to wait for the current one to finish and force quit the vm to back the memory down a little?
Any thoughs???

In theory, yes but -bigadv isn't always graceful when you do this and there is a high risk of WU corruption. The correct flag is -oneunit, BTW, and you may want to do a backup using foxtrotniners scripts before you try this.
 
I don't know why your client crashed but I want to mention that you don't require this much memory to run -bigadv. People should realize that -bigadv WUs will see negligible increases in performance above ~4GB. I acquired 2GB of additional memory to boost one of my -bigadv systems from 4GB to 6GB in the hope of running these units better. I started with 5.5GB allocated to the VM. Recently, I wanted to see what my VM will accomplish with less memory, and dropped the amount way down to 3.7GB. The result? No difference. Nada. Not even a minute in TPF from what I could tell. I'm still getting approximately 17K PPD on this VM. :confused:

So, what's the conclusion? You need only ~3.5GB to run -bigadv and the fact the EVGA VM used to have a default memory allocation of 3.6GB proves it. Why some people allocate vast amounts of memory in the order of 6GB or more to their VMs is beyond me. Maybe the Nehalem architecture's memory subsystem benefits from this much memory more than older architectures, I just don't know. I haven't yet built an i7 machine to determine that, but from what I've seen with older Intel system, it's a total waste of resources. I'm going to move the extra memory I installed to other systems that need it more.
