A new strain of ransomware called BadRabbit is making the rounds in Russia and other Eastern European nations. This one caused some flight delays at the Odessa airport because workers has to process passenger data manually and affected payment systems in Kiev's metro system. Just goes to show hackers don't ever rest and keep on updating their attacks 24/7.

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security issued a warning on the BadRabbit ransomware, a type of virus that locks up infected computers and asks victims to pay a ransom to restore access. It did not identify any U.S. victims but advised the public to refrain from paying ransoms and report any infections to the Federal Bureau of Investigation through the government’s Internet Crime Complaint Center.

Sounds like its a a counter attack from the ransomware attacks earlier this year.....the battlefield has gone digital and its no longer military versus military but state versus state and the civilians / corporations are the leverage.
