take aways
- I love that they made 3 separate VCDX tracks instead of piling on requirements from other layers in the stack. (still assuming this, the official VCDX5 track hasn't been released yet for some reason)
- two cloud-based VCP level exams? plus 3 cloud-based VCAPS?
- finally the desktop VCAP's are coming
- the realization that I may never be able to catch up

Also what about the VCDX's?

I would like to think that they would keep the DV track with the standard names and add the suffixes to the Desktop and Cloud ones. Technically, they already did it when introducing the Desktop track in 4. I guess we'll just have to see.
 
If your goal is to have every VMware cert, give up. It's crazy. 7 VCAP exams? 3 VCDX tracks when there is a grand total of *94* of us as of today? I was hoping they'd discuss this at the VCDX mixer/party thing last night but they didn't. My understanding is that a lot is still up for discussion and change.

Haha, definitely not the goal; however, as of one year ago it was actually something possible. Yeah, given that they haven't announced the full VCDX5 path I can just see them jamming some new requirement besides the DCD/DCA in the mix.
 
Well this has dealt a small blow to my current plans. I'm not going to pay too much attention just yet as it seems that a lot is still in the process of being developed.
 
Doesn't change my plans much. Still going to focus on completing the VCAP5 DCA and DCD before this year is out. Beyond that, I don't know.
 
It reminds me of long ago when the Microsoft exams blossomed to more certifications than one could ever hope to maintain. Realize that the certification landscape is its own money making landscape, so the certifications only continue to grow for everything.
 
I'm taking the Desktop exam at the end of September, then I think i'm going to pursue the cloud track...although I don't fully understand how they can separate the cloud and infrastructure tracks, unless they include a most of the content from the infrastructure track in the cloud track in which case, i'm good with that.

Cloud track is going to be very heavy on automation w/ vCO and vCD. Less about the infrastructure details.

Well in that case I think i'll continue down the infrastructure track and just get the VCP IaaS.

I inquired about this on an internal discussion when it was brought up and nobody addressed it. I would personally like to see -DV assumed unless specified otherwise like they technically did when the VCP4-DT came out. But it would make sense to streamline the naming conventions
