So I have an older I7 2600s CPU and I am looking to upgrade the old GT620 that just can't play very many games. I really don't play many but I do want to play Fallout 4 that I picked up on the cheap last week. What would be a good pair for this CPU? I'm not really looking to build a new PC right now to play a game I picked up for $15.

I think an RX 470 would be good, but it may be too much for a 400W PSU. Some brands list 450W as requirements, and others are 500W.

GTX 1060 6GB perhaps. Then you can also enable Nvidia Flex effects.

It is either a 400 or 450 watt.

Which brand/model? That matters a lot, because there are "400W" PSU's out there that are complete crap and can deliver at most half of their rated power, you don't want to run any system, not to mention one with power hungry modern GPU on one of those. Otherwise a decent 450W power supply is pretty much enough for most single card configurations.

I second that. For reference I have a 8350@4.6 with a 290@1100/1300 and generally pull mid 300W during gaming. Peak is likely 500W but I frame cap most of my games which saves quite a bit of those W.

Just grab a used gtx960 for about 110$ , it will play Fallout 4 at 55 fps @ very high details ,and will easily run on your power supply.

or

Even a new $135 gtx1050ti will run that game excellent.

Nice one, happymedium . The RX 470 is still a better card, but the 1050 Ti only needs a 300W PSU so may be better in this case. Can still run Fallout with high settings at 1080P.

And in fallout 4 the 470 is not THAT much faster than a gtx1050ti.

I just saw that the 1050ti is running about $150 on Amazon this week. I might as well bite. Thank you everyone.
