new video card or ram?

hi all, i currently i have a barton 3000 (400fsb) on an nf7 with 512 pc2700 (samsung) and a 9800 pro (128meg) softmodded to 9800xt (stock speed) with the vga cooler of course. question is, i was wondering if i should upgrade my ram or go for a 6800 vanilla. 1 gig of pc3200 ram is probably around the same, if not a ltitle cheaper than a 6800NU. so i was wondering which upgrade would be the most worth it and would yield the most performance increase? i wanna be well off for coming games like doom 3 ect. :)
 
There isn't any ram that would really boost games than your current.

not significantly.
 
well...cant you just add another 512 of 2700? I know Farcry works a lot better with a gig of ram rather than 512, but the video card is also important, i would do both upgrades
 
ive heard from alot of people that my performance isnt at full potential right now because my ram and cpu are running out of sync? 400mhz fsb is running with 333mhz ram :confused:

Actually if you have 333 ram, your cpu should be running at 13*166 (=2170Mhz), which is fine, your going to see a bigger jump in game performance with a video card upgrade than a FSB improvement.
 
keep in mind almost all the new gen cards will hit a bottleneck with your processor. So you might get better frame rates but you're defenitely not using your cards fullest potential. So if you want to maximize your investment then the memory not only will help you in game but with anything else you do on your system.

I know this doesn't quiet answer which will get you better FPS performance but something to think about :)

That is true. Run them in Sync.

I would do the ram, and save for a 6800gt/x800 pro.
 
I have a gig of 2700 ram and an OCed x800pro and I see 3Dmark scores of 11k, hes going to be fine with 2700 memory on a 3000+ proc with a 6800NU

Running an AMD system with memory out of sync makes a significant hit to performance. Only Intel systems can do that well (5:4 ratio).
