Hey peeps,

I'm looking to get a new video card for my new rig that I'll be assembling shortly. Just wondering:

Does anybody have any input on trade/sales here as well as ebay sales? On top of that, is a GPU that's been used to mine crypto currencies a bad buy on ebay?

I'm looking at getting an R290 or 290X depending on the bang I can get for my buck. I definitely want one from a third party vendor with alternative/aftermarket cooling (because these mofos get hot).

Thanks all!

IMO mining is not a death blow to a gpu. Assuming it wasn't chronically abused. You really can get great deals on ebay thanks to the coin miners. I got my 7970 last month for $120 [ebay listing was $150] but when I saw the guy was in my home town I saved him the free shipping he was offering and did a local pick up and he knocked it down for me.
I'm seeing 290's go for less than $250 though that tends to be reference cooler design. Some like a Tri-X or Windforce cooler will run you closer to $300 right now and of course a 290X will be over $300.

Do check the FSFT forum here at [H]. There was a guy selling reference cooler 290X's for less than $300 last week for a deal like that its worth it to buy that and then just add on your own Gelid or whatever aftermarket you prefer

Yeah, I'd like to buy from here but I'm concerned about how they'd want me to pay. I'm a new member and don't have any kind of verifiable bonifides in terms of securing an appropriate means of payment. I have a paypal account so there's that but lots of people seem to be really hesitant.

Some manufacturers do warranty based on serial number regardless if you were the original owner or not. That would mitigate any issues with mining damaged cards.

I bought a new R9-280 and a used 7950 off ebay that was a miner.. I use it as the second card in CX and have had no issues and cost me $115 .
