New Vid Card Diaxdiag problems.

I just installed an oem version of the Asus radeon 9600XT and I can't seem to solve a few problems. When I installed it I first tried ATI drivers but had trouble with those because the catalyst center would always give the error message "the application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000135). Click on OK to terminate the application."
So I tried to try an older driver but no luck there. I then installed the Asus drivers.
For some reason when I run 'diaxdiag' I get a message saying Windows cannot find it! I don't know what's going on here. I tried to install direct x 9 myself and it seemed to work but I still get the message that Windows can't run diax diag.
Anyone know what to do?

Asus P4S-333 DDR Mobo

Win XP Pro
Asus Radeon 9600XT

ATI cats and CC requires the use microsoft .net framework. If you would read the download page of the cat 5.8 you would know allready. Oh and its DXDIAG and not DIAXDIAG.

Well I'm just the stupidest person in the world aren't I?
Am I ok just using the asus drivers?

I guess not, Just tried playing Call of Duty and it crashed twice on me. Never even had that happen with my old Geforce 4 card. This is not good.
Even after installing the patch for this it rebooted and my cpu temp was somehow up to 65 degrees!! What is this card doing to my system?

Get driver cleaner and remove all ATi and Nvidia traces of drivers while on safe mode, then restart windows and install your catalyst drivers of choice :D

What about this heat issue now? What's this all about?
A new video card can't make yor cpu temps rise. You have something else going on there.

well it CAN but a 9600XT doesnt get any were near as hot as a 6800 :p

Yeah well it doesn't need its own psu but you're saying it can make the cpu temp rise?

So should I just chalk that up to co-incidence with the other issues I've been having?

The 6800 only makes ambient case temp rise. It doesn't affect the CPU temp in a direct manner. A properly vented case would have no appreciable CPU temp increase between a 9600 and a 6800.

You may have knocked the cpu HSF while installing your new video card. Take it out, reinstall it (the CPU HSF, that is)

thats what i ment :p

Checked the cpu hsf and it's where it was before. The temp right now that I'm not running the game is fine at around 46. Doesn't make sense.

Well, of course it will LOOK like it's in the same place. Remove it, check your thermal compound, reseat it. Also, how's the weather where you are? Bit warmer than usual?

OK, do these things:
Run driver cleaner.
uninstall both nvidia and ati drivers.
reinstall your chipset drivers.
reseat your cpu HSF.
install .net crap
install ati drivers.

If that doesn't work, come back.

Do I have to install the .net crap? Aren't there drivers available that don't use it?
