Im making a new comp in the next two months. heres what i was thinking:

c2d e6400
gigabyte-p965-ds3
sapphire radeon x1950 pro 256
2 gb corsair twin2x2048-6400c4
Ultra ULT31852 X2 X-Connect 550W Power Supply
thermaltake big typhoon

I will be overclocking and i would like this build to be less than $1000
any suggestions?

How far do you want to take it (OCing, I mean)? If you just want to play games on it, you won't need the highest OC you can get, but instead just a speed that'll ensure that the games remain GPU-limited, really. If that's the case, I'd go with an E6300 and DDR2-667 memory which should be good for at least 2.8GHz.

Intel Core 2 Duo E6300 - $183.50
Thermaltake Big Typhoon - $40
ASUS P5B - $135
G.Skill 2x1GB DDR2-667 5-5-5-12 1.8V - $190
Western Digital WD2500KS - $75
Samsung SH-S182D - $30
Shipping from newegg.com - $12-$15 for UPS 3 Day shipping

ASUS X1950 Pro 256MB - $200 /w free shipping

Enhance ENP-5140GH - $56 + ~$10 shipping

Antec SLK3000B - $31+ ~$17 shipping

Sub-total - $751
Shipping - ~$45

With the unused money, you can pick up a mouse like the Logitech G7, or throw in a 36GB Raptor to speed everything up. Or both.

I second those votes for an Enhance PSU instead of the ULTRA, and for the Scythe Ninja Pro instead of the big typhoon.

Also, if you plan on overclocking, I'd suggest the P5B-E or Deluxe versions of that board instead. I hear they OC better than the vanilla board. Some other options are the Gigabyte GA-965P-S3, the GA-965p-DS3, or the Foxconn P9657AA-8KS2H.

Here some less expensive ram that will also OC well (since that g.skill kit suggested earlier is now out of stock):
