I am looking to get a new UMPC, an MSI Wind or Eee PC or something with a new nano chip, but I need it to fit the following requirements.

I need to be able to order it, or be able to upgrade the ram to at least 2GB. I would like the computer to be able to load Windows XP and a type of linux, preferably fedora, but any will work.

For the big requirements.

I need it to be able to play WoW on at least decent settings with good frame rates. Also, I need it to be able to run Microsoft Office 2008 and Visual Studio 2008 with no problems.

Could someone recomend me something that can do this?

I would like the screen to be 10 inches or less.

Does something like this exist?

Thank you in advance.

I've looked heavily into these things over the past couple of months. Basically, to keep things simple, what you want doesn't exist. The MSI Wind and Eee PC won't play WoW and they aren't upgradeable to 2GB of RAM. From someone who uses VS 2005 on an Athlon 3200+ w/ 2GB of RAM at work and gets slowdowns, what you need is a real laptop.

I was afraid of that. I just really wanted something small and ultra portable that I could whip out and be like POW! and everyone is like "ooooo.... cool!" you know? Oh well. Maybe I will get a 13" regular laptop.

Grab an XPS M1330 from Dell with discrete graphics and you'll be good to go... check the Dell Outlet for some ridiculous deals too, could find that laptop with a lot of RAM, a lot of storage, discrete graphics, and other goodies too for well under $1100, maybe even under $1000 if you're lucky.

won't upgrade to 2 gigs of ram? wow, i must NOT be typing this on an eeepc with 2 gigs of ram in it. surreal.

the atom based notebooks aren't all that fast, the celeron notebooks aren't that fast, and none of the ssd based notebooks, are real fast either. the graphics chips in the eee's are the intel 900 or 950 series integrated graphics. you likely won't be all that happy with them.

wait for the dell E+. looks like it MAY have the sort of oomph you are looking for.

otherwise, you'll be disappointed. they aren't game machines. they will run some older games pretty ok, quake 2 runs awesome.(the only one i can speak to from personal experience. )

Wow ran on my 701 4g during the brief time I had windows on it. Everything on minimum, it did ok for chatting or checking the AH, but I wouldn't try to actually play on it. Not even just grinding.

The Samsung Q1 UMPC would do all that you would need to do and is a nice little machine (I think a new version is coming out soon?). That is the only really good UMPC out on the market right now with maybe the Fujitsu U810 I believe being a decent machine as well. I would stick with the Samsung or Fujitsu for now.

I found the HP tx2500z and it seems really nice. A little bigger then what I was looking for but it has the AMD3200 Graphics and the AMD Turion Ultra chips along with a touch screen. It seems pretty nice, any thoughts on it?
