Alright I will admit that I did too many changes at once, new HTPC, added cable and a HD prime and then got a new TV for fathers day. I am now left trying to sort out the mess I made for myself and get it working before the wife wants it gone.

I have been able to wade through most of the mess (changed video cards after drivers blue screened which as we all know bad video card drivers makes windows not like HD TV, went through 3 TAs to get the cable card working, changed the CPU and had to re-do DRM)

The last thing is that the sound for the TV seems to still not be happy. Just got the new card and drivers working this morning and on our sharp 32" the sound levels will go up and down with the PC sound. BUT on our new 50" sceptre LCD the sound is on or off and a lot of times the closed caption does not work (needed at our house for nap time).

Any ideas on HDMI sound through a SAPPHIRE Radeon HD 5450 1GB card. Is it the TV that does not accept it through the HDMI port?

I just want to make sure I am clear about this: You have the 5450 working WITH sound on the 32". You immediately unplug from the 32" and plug into the 50" Sceptre, and it DOES NOT work....correct?

I was having sound issues with my Radeon card and sound over HDMI. When the TV was shut off, the Radeon would disable the sound over HDMI. Rebooting the HTPC would fix the issue, but only if the TV was on.

I had to roll-back to the 12.3 Catalyst drivers to resolve the audio issue.

Building on this.....here is my advice:

Once you get a configuration that is working for you.....DON'T CHANGE IT. Don't install new drivers, windows updates or change hardware unless you have to.

very sorry, looking back at what I wrote before I was not clear.

The 32" LCD we can adjust the volume through WMC.

The 50" LCD we have to use the TV volume to get louder and quite. Not a big deal but annoying switching remotes back and forth. The sound does work.

This is kinda one of those picky problems but I am used to the LCD working and I really want to enjoy my new TV.

PS: Kelvarr, good advice. I am looking forward to letting this one sit for a long time once it works like I want it to!!

sounds like your bitstreaming on the 50" tv.

often times the filters/software will autodetect what the TV is capable of and adjust to the highest setting of the TV. It is possible the 32" did not support any digital formats so the system would automatically disable bit streaming.

if you want to disable bitstreaming on your WMC you will have to adjust it in your audio filter settings (ffdshow?)

bit streaming means that the original source audio is passed onto the device with no changes inc volume.

so the new tv with features like "SRS TruSurround HD",MPEG Noise Reduction, Auto Volume Level Control and SPDIF Audio Output and such are more likely to bit stream then?
