Okay I was planning to get the Manfrotto 055XPROB Pro. I went to the camera store and was testing out everything, height/weight/etc. My wife was with me, so she was pushing for weight. Well I went in expecting a 055XPROB and came out with the Gitzo GT1931. Man talk about a difference in weight. Here are some pictures for those interested in getting a lightweight tripod.

Compared to my cheap chinese one that came with my camcorder. Everytime I put my 5D and 24-105 on it I was always scared.

Looks nice. Really makes the old one look like a toy. I am pretty sure I have that exact same tripod (your old one, not new). I too am really looking at getting a new one as that thing just screams flimsy, but just haven't been able to get time to start looking around.

Nice, very highly rated tripod and head.

What did you have to give for that setup if you dont mind saying?

Dont tell me you are taking THAT to Italy? I mean 3lbs isnt that bad but damn I thought you would get a super light, carbon fiber Monopod! Yeah I have been looking at tripods and can say that I like the Gitzo better than the Bogen/Manfrotto

Nice! Gitzo is flat out the best. I've often considered getting a featherweight tripod but never have. Remember to try not to extend that center column whenever you can avoid it.

You should consider replacing the clamp on the head to the Arca Swiss style. The AS system is great. The plates are all specifically designed for exactly the body or lens - no generic "almost fits"

No in Italy I am going to rely on IS on my 24-105 and the speed of my 50mm 1.8. I really do not like carrying around a tripod on vacation. I know it is useful, but I think I can manage with the 5D and 24-105 for the majority of my shots.

Of course not, I paid $360 for the legs and $119 for the ballhead. I know I could of gotten them cheaper online, but I enjoyed playing with all the tripods at the B&M store. Plus I would not be saving too much.

One thing I wanted to ask...is that center column CF, and also does it wobble left and right when you loosen the collar to adjust the height? And also is that locking collar on that tripod plastic? I'm just asking because I bought a knockoff and just wanted to know the differences from the real deal, not that I am not satisfied or anything with my knockoff product...

Same price as B&H, not a bad price at all for B&M local store

All the local stores around me tend to charge full retail which sucks :(
