mirrored 9gb 10k boot/program
9gb 15k swap
quad 18gb 7.2k raid 5 data
Aix 5.1

was the student database server and webmail server
replaced by a sun enterprise 5000 dontated by a large auto parts company

i'm thinking of turning it into a combination squid, ftp, web server
possibly a BT tracker
what else should i use it for?

That's interesting, I thought IBM only used that on AS/400s and earlier mainframes.

AIX has come with RS6000s for years. Buy an overly powerful workstation/server, get the overly powerful OS for free.

I have a 43P, which is the single processor version of that.
It's a fast machine, I imagine the one your got will be really
sceamin'.
I'm getting rid of mine though - my hatred of AIX outweighs
the benefits of this machine. I have some high-end first
generation RS/6000s (Powerserver 930) that I'm keeping, because
they're really nice high-end servers, but the 43P is just a
PC with a RISC CPU. Not interesting.
I mostly use Sun gear anyways.
