That's a collection I want.. I really want the 12-24 and would love a 10.5 fisheye.. too much money right now.. I just bought a ton of stuff

i was thinking about getting the 12-24 instead, but i know i will be upgrading to FX sooner then later, so i plunged a little extra and got the 14-24 instead. eventually i want to pair it up with 70-200, 85, and a macro lens (possibly a 105vr). but this will take some time.

Nice. I've got the Canon version and I absolutely LOVE that lense. Perfect range for most day to day stuff.

Sweet lens! Looks like fun!

I just started buying nikon lenses too - so far have a 50mm f/1.4 and 10.5mm f/2.8.

I think the next one I want is the 70-300mm F/4.5, but I'm still looking around to see if i can find a zoom with a little faster glass that won't break the bank. recommendations welcome.

if you want a strictly Nikon lens, then 70-300 is your best bet. (or a Nikkor 80-200, but that is about twice the price of the 70-300) if that's what you need, go ahead and pick it up. it's a great lens for what it is. also, i would advise you to pick it up before the end of this month, because starting February 1, Nikon lenses will go up in price (they already have, but significant price increase is expected on 2/1). hence, why i picked up my 24-70 now.

Awesome congrats on the lens. I know that lens is great but I have so many lenses covering that range already it doesn't make sense for me to get it. I'm not much of a wide angle man either.

I'm worried about Nikon price hikes though.

Nice! I have the last generation myself (28-70). From what I've read, the 24-70 is even better - no small feat!

Did you post your pic on interfacelift? lol
omg, lol. didn't think it would go through :p that's awesome.

now, i might try to upload some more pics later on. who knows, if they liked this one, they might like some of my other stuff :D

i know what you mean. that's why i picked up the lens now, and didn't wait for the tax money. and i feel the same about wide angles :D i'm using my 14-24 almost 95% of the time (well... that was in pre-24-70 era anyway). but since the only other lens in my set was the 50mm and the kit lens, i decided i needed something like that in my set. i'll be on the lookout for a macro lens next.

oh, and for no other reason then just shits and giggles i did this comparison:

Nice comparision.

I was never a big fan of Nikon's 50mm that's why I stuck with the cheaper 50 1.8. I prefer the Sigma 50 1.4. I was never a fan of 24-xxx lenses @ 24 either and this is why. The wider lenses are better there and primes still have their purposes. So I'm happy without the 24-70 2.8 I believe.

My next lens should be the 200 2.0 VR.

I have those 3 lenses, plus the 18-200 for walkaround, and the Sigma 150 Macro. I find they get me 90% of what I really wanna shoot but my NAS is too big for my budget still... I still want a full frame camera to make the 14-24 sing, and I really really need a fast telephoto for soccer, football and the raptors around here. I'm patiently waiting for an upgrade to the 80-400 but the 200-400 is really what I want, I just don't want to go into debt to get it. =(

yeah, i want to upgrade to FX too, but i don't think it will happen for another 2-3 years. eavy year i've been using my tax money to get the gear i want, so i figured next year i'll pick up 70-200 (maybe?), or the 85 f/1.4, or something else entirely. for soccer i usually rent out 300 f/2.8 VR for $50 a day, which isn't too bad considering i only do it about twice a year. but the glass is spectacular. if you really need the 200-400, and can't afford it now.. it'll be even harder to get if the price really does increase by 20% (from $5000 to $6000).

how do you like the Sigma 150? i want to get a macro lens at some point, and i'm considering getting either that Sigma or Nikkor 105 VR.

I was seriously considering a D3X but I've talked myself out of it again. Think I'll see what the D4(X) looks like.

I owned a Sigma 180mm f3.5 macro for a couple years and it was excellent. Very sharp and fast AF. I ended up giving it to my mother to use with her D50

^thanks for the help guys. excellent shots Kadath, i love your Mantis shot! all i have to do now is try not to buy anything for a while :D
