and a little size comparison vs. 14-24mm and 50mm:
this should satisfy my NAS for few months

i was thinking about getting the 12-24 instead, but i know i will be upgrading to FX sooner then later, so i plunged a little extra and got the 14-24 instead. eventually i want to pair it up with 70-200, 85, and a macro lens (possibly a 105vr). but this will take some time.I really want the 12-24 and would love a 10.5 fisheye.. too much money right now.. I just bought a ton of stuff
if you want a strictly Nikon lens, then 70-300 is your best bet. (or a Nikkor 80-200, but that is about twice the price of the 70-300) if that's what you need, go ahead and pick it up. it's a great lens for what it is. also, i would advise you to pick it up before the end of this month, because starting February 1, Nikon lenses will go up in price (they already have, but significant price increase is expected on 2/1). hence, why i picked up my 24-70 now.Sweet lens! Looks like fun!
I just started buying nikon lenses too - so far have a 50mm f/1.4 and 10.5mm f/2.8.
I think the next one I want is the 70-300mm F/4.5, but I'm still looking around to see if i can find a zoom with a little faster glass that won't break the bank. recommendations welcome.

omg, lol. didn't think it would go throughDid you post your pic on interfacelift? lol
Awesome congrats on the lens. I know that lens is great but I have so many lenses covering that range already it doesn't make sense for me to get it. I'm not much of a wide angle man either.
I'm worried about Nikon price hikes though.

I have those 3 lenses, plus the 18-200 for walkaround, and the Sigma 150 Macro. I find they get me 90% of what I really wanna shoot but my NAS is too big for my budget still... I still want a full frame camera to make the 14-24 sing, and I really really need a fast telephoto for soccer, football and the raptors around here. I'm patiently waiting for an upgrade to the 80-400 but the 200-400 is really what I want, I just don't want to go into debt to get it. =(
yeah, i want to upgrade to FX too, but i don't think it will happen for another 2-3 years. eavy year i've been using my tax money to get the gear i want, so i figured next year i'll pick up 70-200 (maybe?), or the 85 f/1.4, or something else entirely. for soccer i usually rent out 300 f/2.8 VR for $50 a day, which isn't too bad considering i only do it about twice a year. but the glass is spectacular. if you really need the 200-400, and can't afford it now.. it'll be even harder to get if the price really does increase by 20% (from $5000 to $6000).
how do you like the Sigma 150? i want to get a macro lens at some point, and i'm considering getting either that Sigma or Nikkor 105 VR.
