new to watercooling

hey guys, looking to watercool...trying to keep it simple and easy. looking for suggestions on coolling 2 7800 gtx's, x2 4400+...

case is a Lian-Li V1200B Plus so room shouldnt be a problem...

trying to keep the cost at no more that 300 if possible. ill take any suggestions

Theres a million posts like this =). Like, a million, with the exact same case. No lie.

Apex kit would fit your case good I do believe.
 
Depends if you're going for high flow or low flow.

I'd reccommend Aqua Computers or Innovatek being they are german engineered and rock.

That doesn't mean DD and Swiftech suck though, they are solid systems with the right parts.

You're going to need 1 pump, 2x120mm Radiator, minimum, 2 vga blocks and an a64 block. You could use a T-line, but I highly reccommend a resevoir that is compact like the other parts should be.

i recommend the apex kit since you get good quality parts and you have room for the mcw55 with that board. you'll have to get an additional gpu block for sli but that's fine. Just make sure you get the mcp655 pump in the apex kit and you'll be set. If what swiftech says is true, the apogee will be a good block and you'll have a very nice setup with very little hassle.
 
thanks guys for all your help...after some research i think ive decided on the H20-220-APEX ULTRA kit along with 2 mcw55's...


does this kit come with the actuall coolant? if not, what type do u guys recommend? where can it be found?
 
i think it comes with a bottle of the hydrX stuff which you just add to your water. that's all i'd use... I had some and when it ran out i started just using radiator fluid added to the water. some people use fancy non conductive stuff but i can't afford that and make sure to test for leaks thouroughly anyway
 
any special tricks for testing for leaks? or should i just put it together outside the comp and just run it for a certain period of time?
 
It's a whole lot easier to assemble inside the case and power the pump up with an external PSU (an old AT PSU is ideal for this).
Just be ready with a rag in case of leaks (your paranoia would have demanded this anyway I'm sure).
Since none of your PC parts are powered up the risk to them is minimal.
 
Those arent going to mate up very well with your apex kit. They are 1/4" and yoru apex is gonna be either 3/8 or 1/2... i'm really not sure which

Also, for the most part, the ram+gpu coolers dont really do too much for you. At least not any more than a good GPU-only cooler and some ramsinks will.
 
thanks for clearin that up, my dilemna is that with the a8n32-sli the pci-e and pci slot arrangement is a bit odd and with 2 slot coolers i will only have acess to 1 pci slot...i need 2, one for my tuner card, and the other from my soundcard...any good single slot water blocks out there that would work well with the apex kit/?
 
low profile maze 4 GPU blocks are made to fit SLI, and are sold as a pair for precisely that use.

the swiftech MCW 55 waterblock is also made for use with SLI. you need the optional 1/2" barbs to use it with the apex kit. not sold as a pair, but you can solve that pretty easily. :)

as for using the koolance units.....if you really want to try, you could run the two of them in parallel and flow restriction should be as bad........but the added memory cooling is unlikely to get you anything other than added flow restriction. i like ramsinks and good case ariflow, for myself.
 
Skip the Swiftech stuff and just go small bore all the way. No problems trying to go up and down in tubing size. It is also unlikely you will see any real differences in your computers operation no matter which way you go.

@ OP small bore referse to equipment intended for use with small tubing, and most people find that it look better. there is a constant, barely civil, debate between those who use the small bore equipment, like the way that it looks, and say that it performs well enough to get a good overclock, and those people who emphasize performance before all else, and use equipment with larger diameter tubing.

i'm not going to try to get into details, but do a little looking around and you can fill yourself in.
 
A lot of the small bore people have been changing to larger bore components to cool their CPU's mainly due to the lack of performance of their small bore equipment. This leaves them running 2 or more cooling loops which adds a ton to the overall cost. There are some folks here that make a ton of money and are more than happy to rub your nose in that fact (I guess they are trying to cover other short comings) and tell you to buy nothing but highend stuff from Germany that costs 2 to 3 times more than some of the other good ole USA components.
But the point of it all is, get what makes you happpy, if you're looking for max COOLING performance, a bigger bore system will suit you the best. If you're out for looks and have extremely deep pockets, then some of the small bore Europian systems will work best for you. There is 1 or 2 Europian companies that offer great looks along with pretty cooling performance, but they will cost you more than double in the end.
It's all a personal thing, pick well and enjoy.

Wowsa! Who are all these people? R1ckCa1n just recently put up a dual loop run with a Storm on the CPU and saw no difference in OC's when he switched from the Cuplex XT. IIRC he runs nothing but high end CPU and GPU's that put out the highest of the heat! The reason we run two or more loops is because it is asthetically pleasing, it works, we have the watercooling electronics to make it work, and it performs a well as whatever anyone else uses. Like I said above it really doesn't matter whether you use small or large bore equipment in the final analysis as it all does what it is supposed to do. The important thing is to remember to use good quality equipment.

Some of us do make a lot of money and some of us don't. Why do you continue to besmirch people who use German watercooling equipment just because they can afford it or are willing to save a little more to get it? Sounds to me like bitter grapes from someone who either doesn't have the loot or isn't willing to save it. Oh! Don't you only use equipment that you get for review? :D

the apex kit is big bore, high performace, (partially) american made, high flow, etc, etc..........however you choose to describe it.

the MCW 55 GPU block is made to work with the apex, as long as you get the optional half inch barb fitting for it.

are you picking up the apex kit, with the storm waterblock, or the apex ultra kit, with the apogee waterblock?

it's not any secret that i think more highly of the storm than the apogee, however no one has independant numbers out yet to confirm or invalidate my opinion.

i think that you should keep in mind that since swiftech is no longer making the apex kit, retailers are likely to either cut prices to sell their stock, or raise their prices since people still want the limited supply of the old apex.

just be carefull not to get burned on the price, and regardless of which kit you get examine every piece inside and out prior to installing, since swiftech has been shipping some defective products (especially rads) recently.
 
Be careful about buying products from overseas (bought from resellers in US). I'm not going to get into the performance differences because "Performance is in the eye of the beholder", when it comes to comparing them.

--Reasons--

-availability tends to be really bad.

-fittings are metric and not easy to find in US

-when you need a part, don't expect it that same week if you need to order something. You may be waiting a while...

-I waited 4 months for all of my aqua computer parts to come in. (after a year of using them, they are sold)

-If you get one part that is metric it may be easier to get all parts the same so you are not fighting adapters...

-good luck if you have to rma something...
 
having a hard time locating retailers for the apex kit, if you guys know any...ive check froogle, performance-pcs, xoxide,theheatsink factory... im lookin for either set (storm/apogee)...

appreciate any help
