Up until this point, I've been using a stereo plugged into my soundcard. My current soundcard is a Soundblaster Live! Value card. I've got some onboard sound card (ADI AD1985 SoundMAX 6-channel CODEC,
Audio Sensing Technology, support S/PDIF out interface ). I'm planning on buying this Logitech X-530 5.1 surround speakers set. What's the best setup here? Is the soundblaster Live! card 5.1? I'd use the onboard, but it crackles sometimes, for god knows why.

The Live! Value cards support 4-ch speakers (front and rear) but not 5.1, if my memory is correct.

Word. And is 5.1 a must for you?
It's some sort of JVC 3CD thinger. It's about 75 watts and sounds pretty good. I don't think anything computer wise is a must. I would like surround. It would be good.

Hmm, what's your budget?
I don't really have a budget worked out for this. Seeing as my car was smashed by a semi, not too long ago, my budget is wee. I'm trying to work with the sound cards that I've got. I'm only splurging for the 5.1 speakers because they are half price (69.00) right now at this computer store here. I've read many reviews on them, and they seem to be as good as you can do for under 200 bucks. That's all I want to spend right now. I plan on getting an Audigy 2 ZS card sometime in the future, but not yet.

Ah, then yes, definatly the X-530s. For the price they are amazing speakers. The satallites themselves produce great quality sound and look nice enough. The sub provides bass well, though it could be cleaner, but for the cost it's excellent quality. For how much they cost, you'll be very pleased with the sound. Later on you may want to look into an M-Audio revolution 5.1 sound card or the Audigy 2 ZS for better sound. For now though, the Live! should hold you over.

I am seeing these Live! 5.1 cards going for dirt cheap on ebay if that's what your looking for and I'm not too late

Yeah, but you can get the 7.1 24-bit Live! for about $30, which provides much better sound. Even so, you'd be better off saving for a better card.

Go with the Logitech 680-Z and the Audigy 2 zs and you can not lose trust me that is the best system you can buy on the market.... :D
