Its been a while since I contributed to a distributed computing effort... last time it was through Anand... but now I don't really visit Anandtech as often... I've found my browser pointing to HardOCP more often than not! I figured it was about time that I contribute to the [H]orde!

So be prepared my friends... I hope to have quite a surprise for you when my machines update! I've been lurking FAR too long...

So now that I have machines chomping away at the data... how will my first points show up? Do they tally at the end of the day? Or do they update real-time with the complete units that get uploaded? I just spent an hour perusing the FAQs... and I think my brain is no longer working! :)
 
Stats are updated at Stanford within an hour or so of the unit completing. Sometimes it can take more however for their stats to update, so give it at least 2-6 hours to be safe. www.hardfolding.com updates from Stanford every 3 hours. If you take a look, there is a counter on the site that'll tell you how long until the next update is due to run.

And only an hour? There's way more stuff than that in there! :p

If you've got any other questions, don't hesitate to ask!
 
You can go to www.hardfolding.com to check your stats. Once you're there, you'll need to go to:

Project stats->Folding@Home->Member Search (type in your username), and it should come up.

Stats are updated every three hours, and yours will show up in the update after your first Work Unit gets turned in. King_N has done an amazing job with all sorts of features on that site.

We have our own Linux Mage, a specialist in crappers (mostly the FAH type) , network gurus, photochoppers, artistic case modder, bridge engineer, DMV driving tester, NSA morse code operator, and much more . OK , one (and only one) of our abilities in the previous sentence is a fake-- guess which one !

Ok - so it looks like only one WU has processed! LOL. Hopefully the rest of the machines will update by the morning. Should be interesting to see what kind of numbers they bring in! Just installed Fedora on a XP1800+ JUST so that I could use it to fold - if that says anything about my dedication!

Out of the 14 machines that I have crunching right now, its the slowest! ;)

Oh - and if I'd have to guess, I'd say the NSA morse code guy!

I was not too happy with the points output on my linux boxes so I tried installing wine & running the windows 5.04 beta client. I'm getting much better production now (that was on a P4).

re: guesses ---- wrong ! I don't know anyone in the [H]orde that does DMV drive testing ! :p

 
Most of my guys are linux boxes, not much I can do about that... but hopefully they have enough raw power to put out some decent numbers. Anything to get closer to 1st! :)
 
Ok... something must be going wrong here... I've got way too many hefty machines folding to only get 2 work units overnight! :)

Is it possible that multiple machines are downloading the same data sets to crunch? I basically copied the unix console proggy with the config file, would that have caused them to dload the same data? Here is what I got:

Machine 1: (A64 4000+)
Current Work Unit

Are they working on the same data unit?! Seems like an AWFUL long time to crunch one WU for a processor like that. Is it because we are running 64bit linux?

You can fold the same WU on 2 dif computers at the same time you will get points for each. It takes some time for things to fold. After awhile your computers will spread out and turn in WU all the time

If you want more points... time to go a b0rgen

 
most units take anywhere from 10 or 12 hours all the way to 100 hours... depending on the machine and depending on the protien...

like Marty said, the run/clone should be different for each protien....
if you post your FAHlog.txt file, we can better tell if everything is working 100%

No, they're not the same WU. They're just two WUs from the same project.

 
Ok.. didn't know that times could vary so much! :) I'll wait a few days to see how it averages out...
 
Alot of us use EMIII, which you can find in the sticky, to monitor our boxen... let's you know averages,etc and will tell you if something is wrong..... it's written by a member of our team... even has a HardOCP skin you can add... great little program, and it doesn't take a bit of your resources (unless you have a couple hundred boxen you're monitoring).....

But would I have to enable samba on the linux machiens to get this to work?

Too bad they don't have the history of people's first day/week numers... at least I would have somebody to compare with!
