Hi, I thought I'd introduce myself. I've folded in the past for a couple other teams, but after rising to the top #20 on my current team after only a week, I thought I'd come over here with the more serious peoples. Currently folding on an i7-3960x only. After some rebuilds are done I'll add a Q6600, 2 gtx 580s and 3 gtx 680s to the beginnings of my budding garden.

I was wondering what sort of overclocks others used on their folding machines. Do you guys like to run fast and a little hot, or do you keep it slow and keep your temps lower? (Right now I'm folding at 4.6Ghz with temps in the low 60s)

Not wanting to dampen your spirits too much but 680 folding support is still a bit flaky - hopefully they will be sorted soon but in the meantime fold on with everything else!!!

This is [H], we run temps to what we can either bear in our rooms or can afford to cool with the a/c. If that means we can crank OC's of 4.6-4.8 then we will. Our current fave though is over clocking quad cpu server boards:D That is seriously [H]
 
I fold on my 3930K at 4.8Ghz, it gets into the upper 70's C and even crests into the 80C range if the computer room gets too hot, but it folds on, it's been a VERY stable box.

Thanks guys, I'm sure those 680s will be useful for other things in the meantime, like 3D Surround.

If I push the 3960x to 4.8, I, too, get temps in the high 70's occasionally cresting to 82-83. I recently swapped from a corsair h100 to a 3x120mm radiator setup hoping to get a little better temps, but it doesn't seem to have made much improvement besides colorful hoses. It seems like there's a line at 4.8ghz where suddenly I have to jump from 1.4v to over 1.5v to keep running, which is instantly too hot for folding with.
I tried folding with the stock gtx 580s but they ran way too hot for my taste(over 95c) so when I put 680s in the main system I'm going to put them in an older system and liquid cool them, let them live out their retirement folding.
I've seen recommendations for a single 120mm radiator for a stock speed gpu under gaming conditions. Would this apply for folding? I'm planning on 3x120mm to cool both 580s.
 
Welcome to the [F]old! .. I'm not [H]ard like most other here .. I run my cpu's at stock, if I OC it's whatever they can do on stock v's .. and I don't OC any of my vidcards :(
