so I recently built myself a gaming rig and have been thinking about overclocking. Another user on these forums pointed me to the direction of this site 3 step guide overclocking guide bloomfield and gulftown

I'm currently on the hunt for a very thorough guide but I'm sure I'll run into some very bad information as well as useful information. Having never overclocked anything before, anything I should know before doing it or any guides that are particularly helpful?

read guides and do your research.. find some numbers in reviews that do overclocking since those overclocks will typically be far more mild then some of the overclocks you will see people doing on forums..

its not as difficult as it was back with the lga-775 processors.. usually can hit 3.6-3.8ghz with a simple bclk and cpu voltage increase.. just remember to downclock your ram to the next lowest multiplier to keep from overclocking it as well since the ram clock is linked to your bclk..

important numbers to keep in mind is to never go over 1.5v on the cpu, dont raise the ram voltage over 1.65v(unless the board forces you to use 1.66v which doesnt make a big difference), and try to keep your temps below 100C.. other then that have fun..

there are other voltages you can play with but unless your trying to hit 4ghz or higher you dont really need to mess with them..

darn you guys and DDR3. lol. I first read the 1.66v and I was like...!

google your motherboard and overclock at the same time, look for OC reviews of that board. they can help as well. I do that for every board I get just to see any particular tips or tricks I may have missed.

Is this for benching or gaming. FYI your setup will handle games without an OC.
