Hi, I originally wasn't going to OC, but after reading alot of forums for info, people seem to be getting these i7 920's to 3.8+, so I got the bug to try it out.

My specs: i7 920, EVGA x58 sli, 6 gigs GSkill 1333 mhz ram.

I updated to the newest BIOS, and then attempted to OC. I originally used a guide on the EVGA forums that was showing how to OC to 4.2ghz using 1600mhz ram. Being I wasn't going for 4.2 ghz and I don't have 1600mhz RAM, everything didn't translate to what I was doing. Anyway, I went for a 3.2 ghz OC, and changed the CPU host Freq to give me 3.2ghz, my Unicore Freq to I think 17 which gave me 2760 mhz. It was the closest available option to double 1333mhz. Set my Mem Freq to 2:12 which was the option for 1333 and changed my QPI Freq selection to 4.8 GT/s. Well, I blue screened right before windows booted up. So I re-loaded my defaults. I know I just have no clue how to manually set those other settings.

I tried again, this time just changing my CPU host Freq to get 3.5 ghz OC and touched nothing else and left them all on Auto.

Well, it booted w/ a OC freq of 3.5ghz and my DRAM has auto changed to 699mhz. Its running fine, no extra heat generation. I ran Intel Burn test 1.9 for 5 passes at maximum stress and passed. None of the core's temps exceeded 60 degrees. I then tried running 8 instances of Prime 95. I left the room for maybe 40 min and when I returned, the pc had rebooted itself to safe mode giving me windows shut down improperly. I'm curious why this happened, I was under the impression the Intel Burn Test was better and if I couldn't last an hour w/ Prime 95, I should of blue screened immediately w/ the Intel Burn Test.

I ran Intel Burn Test again for 10 passes and passed w/ my temps never exceeding 60 degrees again. So my question is am I unstable?

A couple other question, instead of leaving all my BIOS settings on auto, which should I learn to manually change? or is that necassary?

When I boot up my pc, the initial screen shows my RAM as 1066 and not 1333mhz? Why is that.

Any help, suggestions, references will be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.
