hey guys, I am from agrentina, and i'm new here in the forum,
i'm planning to mod my first case, so i'd like if you can give me some ideas, and advices.

the case I choose is a Silicon Graphics 230 heres is a pic i found, but its the same as mine, i have the 21" SGI monitor and the SGI keyboard.

defiantly a window on the side...i would drill a grill or something in the front under the power button for a fan....LEDS obviously....make a theme for the case...it makes modding and buying parts more focused and to the point. otherwise you wind up with a case that has 5 fans with each one having a different color. well thats my 2 cents.

defiantly a window on the side

Defiantly huh :). Haha, sorry... I used to do that ALL the time.

Well, with that case, a side window, and maybe room for a 120mm air intake at the front... With a nice mesh or even a laser cut fan grill. If you don't use that floppy anymore, you could cut out the hole and use a 3.5' bay fan controller to get your noise down.

If you're going the window route, you'd probably want to use some cable sleeving on the PSU wires, and perhaps get a pretty Heatsink/fan (HSF) combo...

What components (processor, graphics card) are in your system? What do you use this system for?

And welcome to the forums. :)

thanks for your replies
Well the componens are not really hi end, but its enough for me and for my wallet :p I have an MSI mobo, athlon 64 3000+, geforce 6800GS, 2 x spectec 512 MB, 2 x wd360 raptor.

I´ll definatly go for he side window, what i´m not shure is on its shape, the classical rectangular looks boring, so im looking for an idea on the shape.

about the theme, i know what you mean, i´ve seen may game or movie-related cases, but i´ll not go that way, in a year or wo the theme may be obsolete, i prefer to mantain some SGI things (it has a logo on he side, the window may be cuted arround it) and make a more "thechnical" theme, idk if that can be focused.

Youcould make the lines of the window be like the lines on the front of the case; make the window rectangular with one side having a kinda swoop like the blue part on the front of the case. Etch the SGI logo onto one of the edges of the window (I would go with bottom-left). Sleeve the interior wiring, and use zip ties around it every 3-2 inches to make it look sorta technical. I would go black on black sleeving and zip ties. Maybe paint the interior of the case flat black. I would not deal with painting the entire thing, because that will end up being a hassle... If you want something more hardcore, put 2 80mm blowholes on the front and use bondo to recess the fans an inch or so back, feathering the fan holes inwards to make them look gradual with tons of sanding (and probably a lot of bondo work).

Have fun.

Yea...i didnt mean theme like game or movie-related, i meant just an overall look and feel....map out how you would look, the colors, etc. Create your own theme for the case. give it the personallity it deserves :)

well for the front I think it would be grat to place a neon behind the blue curve with the sgi logo.
for the inside I was thinking on two sets of lights that can be turned on eaah at a time, 1 UV set, ie. for nigh o dark ambient, and one led/neon set to use when theres more ambient light. I was even thinking on an automatic switchin with a light sensor. what do you think about that?

and what do you think it´d be beter, for the inside. blue o red?

With the natural curves of that case, I'd look into a colour shifting paint.. CCFLs can even be picked to match

oh well that is sweet :) i think I found the colour/s formay case :D
now the ploblem is how the heck im going to get that to argentina :p

btw sordid, is that paint reistant to scratches ? o shoud i give it a finish with laquer (idk if you call it like that, the transparent finish used in car painting) to protect it? cos originally i was thinking to use car paint for my case
