a couple questions:

1. I'm looking to buy an LCD, I was looking at some in the store today and wondered; what's better for gaming, widescreen 16:10 or standard 4:3? I would prefer a wide, but how does it handle older games where you can't use a widescreen res, or switch res at all (ie starcraft etc). Does it just center the image with black bars on the sides or does it stretch and get all ugly?

2.Will my geforce 7600GS be able to handle the switch to 1280x1024 or 19--x800 (or whatever the 16:10 resolution i was looking at was, i forget) from 1024x768, or will there be a noticable drop in framerate.

Make sure the widescreen monitor you buy has aspect ratio scaling. Most of them do not, and you get an ugly, stretched image.

widescreengamingforum.com - I think that's the link, has a lot of workarounds to get older games to support widescreen resolutions, but there are still plenty that do not have such workarounds.

For 19" widescreens, you're looking at 1440x900, which is almost the same performance as 1280x1024

For 20-22", you're looking at 1680x1050

For above 22", you're looking at 1920x1200

You will experience progressively larger performance hits as you increase in resolution. You will definately notice the drop in frame rates. It is significant.

thanks. I was looking at a 19" WS from LG, and it was at that res you stated.
