Ok heres my deal i currently have a socket 939 4400+ x2 with 2 gigs ram an an 8800gt, i recently acquired a q9450 4gigs ram an 8800gt. My question is this will i notice the difference all i really do is play wow an web browse an CoD4. should i stick with what i have an try to sell this or will it be a nice upgrade? Also can someone point me in the direction of learning how to OC it or help me out VIA msgs i have a http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813135064 any pointers tips upgrades pretty much help a newbie out kinda thing would be awsome!!! thank you!
 
I can pretty much assure you that you will notice the difference. Going from an X2 to a Core 2 based chip is quite a difference, and the Q9450 is a great little chip even at stock speeds. Even at day to day stuff like web browsing and general desktop usage you should notice a marked difference, I know I did when I went to a Core 2 based chip from a X2 3800+ (which I had o/ced really high). Overclock it some and you'll have an even bigger improvement but I think you'll be pleased with the difference even at stock speeds.

Unfortunately overclocking with that ECS board won't be great at all. I do believe it offers some limited FSB overclocking so you might be able to o/c a little. But even at stock speed you should be relatively happy.
 
sorry, death smasher, do you now have two 8800GTs?

Are you sure the only games your going to play are COD4 and WOW?

and if you have all the parts and are willing to dedicate some time to it, why don't you build the Core 2 rig up, use it for a week or so and see what you think?
 
Yes you will notice a difference. I went from an X2 4400+ to my current system (specs in sig) both using the same 8800GT and the difference is quite substantial.
 
So you mean I might notice a difference if I convert from my current setup to a E8500 based system? :)
 
Thank you for all the input i think ill throw it all together an upgrade the board as soon as i get a bit of cash.
 
COD4 and WOW are not very demanding games.....but the differences will be felt... but nothing earth shattering.... games like GPU power over CPU power in most cases...
 
I don't play WOW but COD4 easily maxed out both my cores when I was running my 4400+. While it played fine, it was at it's limit and I couldn't run much, if any background apps while playing or I would get some pretty noticable slow downs.
 
Well Call of Duty 4 would max out a Core 2 Duo as well. The game might perform slightly better but if your itching to upgrade I'd hold off until Nehalem launches. When it does it may prove to be compelling and even if it doesn't or you can't fit it into your budget the Core 2 Duo's and Quad's should drop in price by quite a bit.
