Hey Guys,

I finally took the plunge and got a "budget" 2.1 setup that consists of the following components.

Speakers: JBL ES 80 4-Way Dual 6" (160mm) Floorstanding Speaker http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ..._-cables-_-na-_-na&Item=9SIA5Z227K2575&cm_sp=

Receiver: Yamaha HTR-3066 http://www.amazon.com/Yamaha-HTR-3066-R-5-1-Channel-Refurbished-Receiver/dp/B00IWURW6U

Sub: Polk Audio PSW10 http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0002KVQBA?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00

So question.. I'm new to the audio game, to get this setup up and running - do I need to get just your typical wire? Will I need to get any special wires to set up the sub?

Thanks in advance

Normal Speaker cable for the 2 speakers. You will need an RCA cable for the subwoofer.

Might need a Y (mono to stereo RCA adapter) for the sub. My receiver has a mono output for the sub, but the sub has stereo inputs.

Most subs have stereo inputs but you don't need to use both inputs. A stereo sub track is extremely rare and most receivers don't even support stereo sub outs so you can just pick the left or right input on the sub for the sub cable.

If you read up on speaker cables, avs forums, you will see that there is zero difference in running aluminium foil from the grocery store and $1000 dollar directional speaker cables and all the guys dropping six figures on dedicated home theaters are just using monoprice speaker cable.

The only thing you're paying for in speaker cable is looks/marketing. Get either some from Monoprice, or even Home Depot. Having said that, I did build my own twisted Ethernet cable. Manly just for looks.

For the sub, I've heard debate on getting a solid core RCA cable vs a braided core. Your normal RCA cable is braided. The ones for subs are normally solid. I don't think you'll be able to tell the difference between the 2 really.
