Hey everybody, I built a new rig a little over a month, basic details in sig.

I am currently running the Nvidia GPU client. I have 2 8800 GT's in SLI with only one monitor available. I'm looking for advice on pretty much everything, what's the client to use, can I use both cards while in SLI? Will I be able to play games at all while folding? If not can I use a CPU only client while gaming so I can continue to fold? Any other tracking programs would also be great.

I'd also like to fold for World Community Grid simultaneously as well, since it seems to be going after a broader range of diseases.

Thanks for the help and it's good to do "good" computing.

:D

1. Client to use is here: http://www.stanford.edu/group/pandegroup/folding/release/Folding@home-Win32-GPU-systray-623.msi

Follow this guide to set it up: http://www.hardforum.com/showpost.php?p=1032943617&postcount=5

2. You can't game while folding. F@H will dramatically slow down your game performance. It's easy enough to pause the client when you run a game and resume once you're done though. And yes, you can fold on your CPU while gaming. The best way to take advantage of your CPU is by following this guide: http://www.stanford.edu/group/pandegroup/folding/release/Folding@home-Win32-GPU-systray-623.msi

3. I don't know anything about WCG, but hopefully someone who does can help you get started with that.

I'm able to run it while playing Aion just fine, FPS is still 80-100, so, yay. Can run 24/7 no prob as long as I don't run Crysis or something.

When properly set up, all CPU clients will give up CPU cycles as requested because they are set to the lowest priority.

So when playing a game, the folding client will soak up whatever the games doesn't use.

Welcome to the fold!

You can CPU fold while gaming, but you can't GPU fold. You will either have cripplingly bad performance, or you will get constant EUEs. I should have worded my post a little better, but I did essentially say this.

It's hit and miss, but like zero said, pausing (sp?) is the best idea, less chances for things to go wrong

Glad you here, welcome welcome!! Looks like the others have covered things fairly thoroughly, but I just wanted to say hello.

Beers and tamales for the new guy! Fold On!!
