New to COD4

I just broke down and bought COD4. I wanted to buy it since it came out but decided to wait since i had other games to finished first. Now its all done and i bought it with a good price drop at my local futureshop.(20$ off , so it was 29)

I just want to get advice on how to play it to not get rape at my first online game.

From my personal experiences, if you just jump into a big COD4 server you will get raped, start small. Its alot more fast paced than alot of the other FPSs im used to playing. But how to survive really just depends on your playing style. Personally i started off with an M4, m9, rpg, increased bullet damage (can't remember the name), and deeper penetration. I quickly switched to the same setup but with an m16 which, when you get a red dot sight for it, is deadly. Also, play the single player....its good...
 
Basically you gotta stay low (NOT CAMP!!), and try to move to places slowly, then watch your radar for red spots, your radar will save you most often than not, if you're playing non-hardcore mode.

Practice. The only way you'll get better is experience. You just need to play and learn for yourself what does and doesn't work, as with anything in life. If you get raped the first couple times, who cares? There's always a learning curve.

i totally agree , but i read a lot of thread about this game and wanted some advice from me fellow HARD member!
 
If you want a slower and more realistic game pace, try out hardcore servers. Also, try not to play in servers bigger than 16 players or so, as they become explosive grenade fests.
 
you can camp as long as kill cam and tracers arent on, i primarily snipe and many maps do have god spots

but also dont run around like a mad man, use some skill, listen for people, watch for bombs, find what Perks work best for the weapons your using.
 
Hardcore servers with <18 players. The maps are a little small. 10-15 players is ideal IMO to give the perfect game speed. Keep your cover, move slowly, keep the sound up and listen for enemies.

It's nice to jump onto the more populated servers every now and then, but it gets old not being able to live more than 2 minutes at a time due to constant nade barrages.
 
No, I disagree. If you're just starting off don't start on a dumb hardcore server. Its just a flat out bad gametype where first to see the other wins. Being new to the game, you won't know where to find the camping scrubs before they see you. I say dive into a TDM server with preferably no respawn time so that when you die you can just get back into the game and keep learning what to do. the M16 is a pretty solid gun to start off with and is still used by vets.
 
starting off you can make an m16...whoopie
but premade has a 203 launcher so use it.
get kills with the launcher and hide and get some kills with the rifle, don't run and gun with it.

32 or bigger servers give you people to hide behind use them. Pretend you are a politician and let them get it for the good of the one...YOU
 
Just get online and play the damn thing. The important thing to remember is to stick with it until you get better. Eventually you'll start racking up the kills and your kill to death ratio will improve.

I disagree completely. What's frustrating and annoying is getting killed over and over by random nades and shots from people who haven't seen you but just know the places people tend to be. It becomes a struggle to get in a couple of kills before you're blown up by a nade.

There's nothing "stupid" about hardcore servers. The gameplay rewards you for keeping your cover and outflanking your opponents. It's not about who sees who first, and it's not about camping (although it can be if you're defending an objective - the camping is worse in the 20+ non-HC servers anyway though).

The M16 is much more useful in HC mode than not, too. On a "normal" server, a burst from an M16 generally doesn't take down your target, and it's hard to reaim and get off another burst before you're shot in return. In HC mode, a single M16 burst almost always takes out your target.

Just different opinions though. No need to call anyone or anything dumb.

Uhh grenades are 1000x more annoying in HC since you don't have a warning icon on screen. Leaves you wondering if its a friendly grenade that just got dropped or if some noob just chucked a grenade across the map and landed near you. If you're mad at getting shot for being a place thats commonly occupated, how is it worse in non HC? In HC you die instantly in regular, you have a chance to bone out.

The M16 is not hard to aim or re-aim.

Because on HC servers with 10-16 people, players don't waste their nades by lobbing them towards spawn areas. On servers with 20+ people, a large portion of your deaths invariably come from "last stand" nades and people just lobbing nades at spawn areas or wherever they see some people. The action is intense, but it's virtually impossible to stay alive long enough to actually accomplish anything, especially when you're in a gametype like sabotage with an objective.

I personally like HC servers because they give you more opportunity to be patient and stalk your enemy. You're not pressured to run around and keep running just because the massive gobs of bullets and nades are constantly shifting around the board.
 
I'm rank 55 and still use my M16, I use it with red dot and stopping power and it is very deadly, but it runs out of ammo quickly unless you have bandoiler. I use the M4 carbine for my automatic (again red dot and stopping power) and the first shotgun for close range with UAV jammer lol.

I use the saw for my spray and pray and the barret for a sniper.

Just head the words of my wife, and I quote "Don't be dumb" its short, sweet and applies very well to this game lol.
 
Your best bet to not get totally humiliated in COD 4 is to add me to your xfire list (if you use xfire). My name on it is ub3rnoobee

I jumped into multiplayer after playing some of the single player on one of the harder difficulty settings. Don't remember the names of them. The one just below the hardest I think. Think I played the single player till around the Gunship mission. After that I started playing some multiplayer. It isn't that much diffrent than anyother game strat wise. Don't try to camp, try to run with your friends, don't try to go lone wolf on 30 enemies and you'll be fine. Try playing headquater matches (it's like a moving king of the hill kind of thing) They're good XP and you'll end up moving with your friends naturally as you get to learn the maps. Shouldn' take you too long to be matching your K:D Ratio in other games.
 
If you love FPS, this will be some sort of easy. I got level 31 in two weeks.
