new system

Ok Since I just got a new job and my father doesn't care if I do not that it matters i'm 19 and it's my money, as long as I can pay for it. I wanna get an upgrade

so first I'll list what I have now

4 year old dell dim4400
1.6ghz p4
generic intel/dell oem mobo
512mb (256x2) pc 2100
20gb maxtor
30gb quantum fireball ( from a 6 year old compaq )
64mb ati 7000 + 16mb ati rage 128 pro for second monitor
16x lite on dvd-rom
16x cd-rw

now for the stuff i'll be getting next saturday from mom for my bday

Ati AIW 9600xt 128mb
1gb (512x2) mushkin pc3200
160gb maxtor i'll probably sell this and get a maxtor sata drive

So I'm thinking the cooler master centurian 5 ( seen great reviews and i like the look of it)
and for the cpu a athlon64 3200+ 939pin 90nm and cool it with a ZALMAN CNPS7000B
i'd go with the 3500+ but i can justfy 0.2ghz for $75 , then for the mobo the ASUS A8V Deluxe

the only thing that leaves me wanting is the 9600xt but i could sell the 160gb ide and get only a 80gb sata and sell the 9600xt and then maybe get a 6600gt.for $240 unless the 6800oc are back in stock then i'll get one of those.

so anybody got any comments after that long post.

Ya, you can't run a oem one in there.

You'll need a good psu for that system. Take a look at Antec's solution series power supplies. If you have enough money go for a truepower. Get atleast a 350W. I've had my antec psu for 2 years and have had no problems with it. But i did have a problem with the one that came with my pc (probably like yours). After i upgraded, i couldn't play half-life! So you'll need a better psu.

Why the 20 gig for the OS (from old System??)...It seems that the only advantage is that you wouldn't lose all your data if the drive fails...But If you plan on buying a new drive I would just partition the big drive...and if you are using an old drive you probably would want a fast drive (raptor or at least 8mb cache drive) running your os and progs.

I agree with above post - you definitely want OS and program files on the fastest drive, especially if you're going to be gaming on it. Your load times are going to suck.

Also, I have a 130nm core for my cpu and running the a8v fine, but you might want to look into the problems people have been having with the 90nm core and the a8v - the original BIOS on the board doesn't seem to support it - look around and see what people have been saying about it.

as far as the motherboard not supporting the 90nm is some instances well I've never flashed a bios before and I don't have a floppy drive so I really like to avoid it for now from what i read in the amd mobo board the neo2 plat comes with bios that will support the processor so I think I'll go that route.
