Here's my setup:

ABIT AN8 32x SLi Mobo
AMD64 3000+ Processor
Thermalright 120-SI Heatsink w/ 120 mm Fan
XFX 6800XT SLi
XFX 6800XT SLi
4x1GB Sticks Corsair XMS Platinum
OCZ Powerstream 600W PSU SLi Ready
Creative Sound Blaster Audigy2 Platinum
DVD R/W , DVD Drives
Maxtor 160GB HD

Here's the problem. I hooked everything up, pressed the power button, and the case powers up, but i get nothing going to the monitor. It is my first SLi setup, so if there are any little quirks I should know feel free to list them. It's not a memory issue because I tried all the combinations of the memory in all for DIMM slots. I even pulled out the old GEIL memory and put that in there and I still got nothing. The POST code display on the mobo shows 9.0. which translates into 'Complete uGuru initial process. AWARD BIOS take over booting job' I tried resetting the CMOS, and still nothing. I'm thinking it's either the processor or the IDE cables I'm using to hook up the hard drives. Is it necessary to use SATA cables? If that is the case, I would have to purchase SATA drives. Currently, all my drives are ATA. Help?
 
I would try using just one video card to start with until you can get the SLI drivers loaded. This may not be your problem but it is worth a shot.

No it is not necessary to use SATA drives or cables.
 
Yes, try with one video card. or make sure you have installed the two cards correctly.
 
I would start by stripping it down to the Motherboard, CPU, RAM, PSU, and a single V-Card. Add the other parts piece by piece until you find the issue.
 
I tried running it with one vid card and just necessary hardware (i.e. - i removed the sound card etc), and still i got no output to the monitor. i double checked the IDE pins on both ports on the mobo and both HDD's. any more suggestions?
 
At this point, its either a bad mobo or a bad cpu. Try reseating the processor. Do you know anyone that has a s939 mobo that you can try the cpu in?
 
I don't want to jump on the whole bad mobo/cpu band wagon until i'm positive that's the problem. I had one major question, The 2 XFX vid cards are both dual DVI out and my sony 19" lcd doesn't have a DVI input. Currently, I have the VGA end plugged into the monitor and the VGA-to-DVI adapter on the other end, which is plugged into the DVI-1 port in the graphics card. could this be the problem??? The cards are dual DVI-out but the monitor doesn't have a DVI-in? Is there any way to correct this problem without replacing the cards or the monitor? Also, if the vid cards or monitor needs to be replaced, any suggestions on PCI x16 vid-cards with the VGA-out? I looked up some DVI-to-VGA signal converters and they were priced around 300. Any thoughts? Thanks for all the help.
 
I don't think that is your problem. I have been using dual DVI cards for a while now and have never run into this problem. The last 3 systems I built(2 for friends) had dual DVI cards going to (vga)19" crts.

My current rig is dual DVI and is set up exactly like yours with the adapter and it fired up np.

Maybe we can get some other ideas and opinions in here. Bump.
 
my SLi setup has a total of 4 DVI outputs coming out of hte back of the case. can I plug the monitor into any of the ports?
 
Have you tried both V-Cards individually? Each RAM stick individually? And for diagnostic testing I would have the HDD's/CD-ROM's disconnected as well. And reseating the CPU is also a good place to look.

If this also fails I would pull the board out of the case, and try it externally with only the board, cpu, ram, v-card, and psu connected.

Also do you have a case speaker hooked up to the board to get any kind of trouble codes? Some boards also send trouble codes through the actual speakers attached to the PC.

i tried both cards individually and all 4 sticks individually. i dont think it is the memory because i took all 4 sticks out and replaced them with some geil sticks. i removed the ide cables connecting the hdd's and the cd/dvd drives. i'm getting them same zero response. the tower powers up but there's nothing going to the monitor. i'm finally beginning to think it's the cpu. i have an abit an8 32x. any suggestions on a new cpu?
 
thought you guys might want to know that i bought a new cpu. it should arrive tuesday. i'll keep you all posted.
 
i replaced the cpu. no go. it's does the same thing. no activity on the monitor and the POST code display shows 9.0. any more suggestions? anyone think it's the mobo?
