New system w/1 drive. Setup question

Hi folks,

As soon as my RAM arrives on Thursday, my new rig will be complete. Yay!

I have a question though. My system will, for now at least, be running with only one drive. I know many people run the OS one one drive, storage on another and a third (sometimes) for games, but I don't have the budget for that just yet.

I have read about partitions but I'm really not sure exactly what they do or whether they are worth messing with.

Since I will have my OS on the same drive as my storage and games, do you guys have any reccomendations as to how to setup my drive or will anything I do really make a difference?

With one drive, no. When you can add a second, put your data and pagefile on that. Keep you OS, apps, games, etc on the boot drive. Doing partitions can help if you know you'll be stuck with one drive and may redo OS installs or reimage the drive with a program like Acronis True Image or Ghost at frequent intervals on one partition while your data remains untouched on the second partition.
