I put together a system tonight. I've been doing a little overclocking and temp watching.

Here are the specs:

Pentium 4 3.0C (With TT Spark 7)
Abit IS7
1GB Geil "Golden Dragon" PC3200
Radeon 9800 Pro
Sound Blaster Audigy

I can't comment much on the overclocking for now except that it hit 3.45 on stock voltage. I didnt try any higher because of some quationable load temps. (67C)

I think the problem is caused by my mounting the Vantec Stealth in the front of my Sonata backwards. I cannot switch it around tonight though since I want my fingers to heal from the slicing and dicing they took when I got them a bit too close to said Stealth.
:(

Here are some pics.

Anyway....

What is the best QUIET P4 Heatsink/fan combo for overclocking?

I will post benchmarks later.

Edit: Here's one, for those who care.

First off, ABits read temps high. With the same chip and ventilation, I'm getting 60-64C load temps where I was getting about 49C. Part of this may be that I'm using crappier thermal paste, but it's not that much of a difference, and it came free with my VGA silencer.

Second of all, you have to turn the front fan around. Air should be sucked in the front of the case and exhaust through the 120 in the back. I actually tried running the rear as an intake and the front as an exhaust. The processer temps were phenomenal - around 59C as compared to above - but hot air eventually built up in the case with nowhere to go. Not only that, but the back fan was probably picking up the hot air exhausted by the VGA silencer and the the power supply. I also tried running both fans as intakes - same problem. Put it back the way it was supposed to be, and it went back to ~31C case, as opposed to 37-40 (it probably would have gone higher had I let it).

The Sonata doesn't have the best ventilation. I'm considering doing a mod to open up more ventilation in the front, and then trying all that again. The reason hot air was building up in the case was that it was trying to squeeze all that air through a bunch of holes maybe 3/4 in. in diameter, and then through slits thinner than my finger.

Be careful with that case - it scratches easily :(
