Im planning on using like $600 or so not very long from now to build my new system. I already have a case, HDD and PSU. Just looking into a mobo, memory, vid card, and CPU. Im leaning toward and ASUS board with a 2.8c, and a gig of 3200 or so. Im estimating that in itself to cost me somewhere around $450 by the time I get around to buying it, as the prices have dropped since they first came out. Assuming Im allowed to stretch the budget a little by the mrs., what kind of vid card should I go after for around $200? Any help and/or suggestions about the card or the system itself would be great. Thanks.

Go for the nVidia 5900XT. Its less then $200 and will overclock to or faster then 5950 speeds. A 9600XT wouldn't have a prayer :p.
 
9800 pro. Don't worry, it's worth every penny of the price tag.
 
Either the 9800Pro, or even the old 9700Pro which is still a great contender. If you can find it, you couldn't go wrong by getting a 9800(non-pro) either, though they are really hard to find nowadays but should be pretty cheap. The 9800np has performance effectively the same as the 9700Pro, but can be overclocked to 9800Pro levels depending on the card/memmory should you wish to do so. Just don't get any ATI "SE" cards, like the 9800SE which is WORSE than a 9600Pro and typically costs more too.
 
In a few months you should surely be able to get a good 9800Pro for 200 bucks. If you're into the DVR thing, you could get a 9600 AIW for about the same.

Hell, who knows, NV40 and R420 will be out by then, so maybe even the 9800 XT will be around $200 or $250. That would rock!
 
STOP TALKING ABOUT FRY'S!! I live in Maryland, it makes me jealous :( I'll look into the 9800 Pro though. Thanks for the help guys, I appreciate it.

Another vote for the 9800pro.

was that price from Fry's an ATI manufactured card? and i am assuming a sale price?
