hellouuu,

i recently upgraded to a C2D and its running fine and everything, so yesterday i bought a 74gb raptor and reinstalled xp. i made 2 partitions on the raptor a 10gb for xp and 60gb for games. i also puttet the jumper on the raptor on the 2nd pins from the left (like this -> :I::: ) to get 150mb/s mode, thats the fastest right? :p

anyway the drive is running on dma6 from a promise sata300 tx4 card since my mainboard doesnt seem to support dma6 (only5).

so now for my fancy panty questions :D

- i made the "game" partition on the "end" or something in partition magic, ive read something somewhere once that for better performance put it on the end of the drive for faster access since the drive reads from outside, did i do that right? o_O
- i have 3 other hard drives on the sata controller, can this be a bottleneck? the other drives are not accessed during gaming tho.
- i have puttet page files on 2 other physical drives, ive also read somewhere that this should be good, thats right, right?
- windows takes ages to boot, much longer than older system, im talking about when that blue bar goes from left to right (takes about 8-12 times) but once thats over system is instantly there and startup takes like 5sec. (ive already run bootvis)
- anything else i could do to increase performance without buying anything new?

thanks in advance!

ps: rig is in the sig

SATA II is faster than SATA I. You shouldn't need a jumper for the raptor because they are SATA I.

1) Not entirely sure, but I think that is correct.
2) They should have their own channel, but again, not entire sure.
3) You only need 1 page file, on another drive does help performance a little bit.
4) Welcome to the wonderful world for TLER. I'm almost certain this is the case.

thanks for the reply,

ive googled a bit and it sounds like something thats actually good for the drive but is it also if its not in raid? or is it just a feature wich i dont really benefit from at all, if thats the case is it possible to turn it off? D:

Supposedly you can use some executable to get rid of it, WD says it cannot be turned off. If you search for WDTLER.zip you should be able to find the program. If you turn off the partitioned drive (so only one disk and 2 partitions, TLER probably will be turned off the entire drive).

WARNING: Now, I have not used it so I cannot say if it works or not. I do not know if you can turn it back on either once this program is used.
