I bought a bunch of new part for a new pc. Going from amd to intel C2Q. I don't want to lose my current OS setup. I know there is a way to disable things in Device Manager to allow me to just pop this HDD into my new system and it will recognize the new stuff and just let me install new drivers. I have totally forgot what to do and such as it has been a long time since I had to do it this way. Can someone please tell me what I need to uninstall to get this to work.

I know it will work just fine and there will be no problems by doing this. Just need to know how to do it.

There is a registry key you can delete, but it only works about half the time.

A much more reliable method is Sysprep, and it is the right way to do what you want. Of course, the best option is to just go with a clean install, but Sysprep does work.

Edit... You may want to read up on Sysprep a bit, I just realized your moving from AMD to Intel, and that may be an issue.. I'm not sure.

Just pop it in and hope for the best...It should work after it detects all the new hardware....

or you could uninstall all of your drivers , then take it out and switch it......don't reboot as it will re detect them.....

but as has been stated...its really not the best way to go.....nothing beats a clean install when changing hardware.

I would really recommend deleting the ENUM key before making the swap... the odds of correct hardware detection are a lot higher if that's done first.. in my experience anyhow....

I will have to take your word for it....I always do a clean reinstall....I know a few people that just "pop em in" though :)

I just talked to a friend of mine who is a network admin and he told me not to worry at all as this is how they ALWAYS do this. Go into device manager and update the drivers for the ide controllers to standard controllers. The rest is plug and play. Everything else gets reinstalled after you boot back into windows after the build. This is how they do this on all servers and I am leaning towards servers are a little more important about this type of stuff. He assured me that going from one type of mobo to another will not matter. the hardware is not there and the driver will not get loaded. Run driver cleaner and all will be well. Off I go to start the build. 4 Cores and 4 gigs of speedy sweet goodness.

System specs are as follows. Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 with 4 gigs of DDR2 800 GSkill, Evga 8800 GTS and 1.5 tb of HDD, Scythe Inifity HSF all on a Asus P5w-DH Deluxe and packed into a Cooler Master CM-830 Stacker.

All done...worked like a charm. Just updarted the drivers on the ide controllers and all is well. I need to update my bios on my for quad cores. I get a intel cpu ucode loading error. I guess the asus p5w-dh deluxe does not like quads at default. Just got to research what bios to get.

This install on my raptor has been running for about a month. I have everything setup very nice and its has alot of performance tweaks set and I didnt want to have to redo it all and intall everything over again. But its running fine now. After I did what I stated in the previous post and put the new system together its running fine. Like I never did anything.
