New System: Major Problems

My system:
DFi LanParty nF4 SLI-DR
AMD 4000 64 San Diego
2x Matrox 300gb 1Mb Cache
2gb Corsair ram
Phillips dual layer DVD writer

Now I've tried putting Windows XP on numerous times but I get an error which seems to be different all the time. The main error is IRQ less or not equal but I also get other blue screen errors too. I'm pretty sure I'm getting something wrong on the Bios as it's such a complex beast.

Can anyone give me some tips. Would it be better to go for a more simple board like the MSI Neo board?

I'm not into overclocking so I'm not up to speed on all the options on the mobo.

try disabling all the onboard things like sound and NIC from the BIOS before you install XP.

Tried that. The thing that puzzles me is the fact it won't even get to the bios if I take out a stick of memory.

Could be Ram related, but probably not. Have you flashed to the latest bios?

I've tried the 2 512Mb sticks from my old pc. 400Mhz el cheapo ram. Didn't even get to the bios. I've tried taking out the 1gb stick of corsair ram and that wouldn't boot to bios either.

I have no idea of the problem. :(

I read your information as indicating you had been into BIOS at least one time and tried to set it up, then ran into problems while trying to load XP.

If this is the case and you actually did get this far then the problem is probably an error in setting up the BIOS. Read page 29 and 30 of the manual on setting the BIOS back to default. Then read the manual carefully on setting up BIOS beginning on page 76. Use the Genie.

This stage of building is just like a Chinese fire drill. Just steady up one thing at a time and you'll do fine.

We NooBies got to stick together. Good luck on your build. I just finished doing the A8N-SLI Deluxe and I found myself in BIOS Ver 1003 vs current was Ver 1007, I didn't upgrade until all was complete, but keep BIOS operations to mimimal level.

Okay the errors I'm getting with different bios options are:
Driver IRQL not less than equal.
IRQL not less than equal.
Multiple IRP complete requests.
PFN list corrupt.
Bad pool caller

I think the PFN list corrupt is an error relating to a half formatted hard drive. Since I reformatted I've not since had that error.

not sure about the newer cores, I know the memory controller has been improved, but the A64s have always been picky about RAM... Do you know anyone with a 512MB stick of quality RAM (crucial, something like that, not known for performance but stable) that you could try and see if it behaves better????? also, another angle to look at, I once had a problem like that occuring which turned out to be the hard drive, found out the cache chip was bad......

RAM wouldn't do that unless it was jammed in backwards, but the Controller might.
I sugest you give DFI a cal or at least an Email. I would think RMA about now. These SLI boards are kind of freaky sometimes.

The memory controller is on the processor now. Could be bad, do you have a local shop that could test it for you?
